Hi there, would anybody know how long it takes to actually receive flight delay compensation from an airline? We had a delay of 20 hours back in October 2022 on Sri Lankan airlines out of the UK and although the airline have acknowledged the delay and we have completed the necessary forms we have no idea when we will receive the compensation? Nobody at the airline will give me a Managers name to deal with and from all the airline email address's I have, nobody has been able to answer that question. I've also posted on their Facebook page but again nobody has responded. So how does this work now? Anybody know please?0

With regards to a compensation claim that I have made... I have had a generic response back confirming that there was disruption to the flight and it's being looked into. It does not give specifics as to the reason.
Should I ask, "what is the specific reason for the cancellation?"...(I personally suspect it was due to there only being 2 other seats occupied on the flight) Will they even give a truthful specific answer?0 -

Hi,
We've got return flights booked with KLM from Kenya to UK, and the return leg in September is being changed to a later flight that departs 26 hours later and arrives 21 hours later than the original one.
I'm assuming that I can cancel it and get a refund of the return leg, but would like to know this:
1) We've already use the outbound flight, so would the refund of the return leg but about 50% of the ticket or significantly less?
We've had a similar situation a little back where a ticket had to be cancelled, but didn't get much in the way of a refund - it was about the difference between a one-way ticket and a return ticket which like only 10% the ticket price. We didn't do any research before and blindly accepted the refund, but don't want to make the same mistake again.
2) Are we entitled to any compensation if we go for the refund? I'm not sure if I can claim both or not.
Any advice appreciated.0 -
The cost attributed to the return portion of the ticket may be 50% or significantly more or less, there's no way of telling - is there no indication on your ticket? If not, have you researched pricing on the route concerned?
No compensation due when flights are changed this far (more than two weeks) in advance....0 -

I did some further research and it looks like the refund is unlikely to be 50% of the original ticket price - some say the it may only be the taxes that we get back since the difference between a direct and return flight is usualy very little. This aligns with the aforementioned experience.
Does anyone knows better?0
