You are making a huge assumption that there was such a thing as 'the truth' to be had at that time other than 'we don't know what is going to happen and we don't know when we will know'. Which I think is what you were being told.

Many passengers had access to information via the internet and contact with Britain. It became very quickly obvious that what was being said at the airport was not what was being stated by other media. Having raised this point with the reps they stated that they could not get hold of anybody to ask, hardly rocket science. This was also the only flight left to depart from Chania that night. So staff were not exactly tied up with other issues. Seems to smack of manipulating the situation to suit the Company needs. Later we were told that the flight had left Manchester on route to Gatwick. Not true again, the flight was still at Manchester more than an hour later. The pattern continued throughout the night.

What do you think they should have done given the available resources and infrastructure?

The Company must have known the source of the issue and what was required to sort it. The time span involved should have sent alarm bells ringing to at least set a plan in place to cater for the passengers needs. Many sites indicate that hotel and welfare should have been provided as a matter of course for this protracted delay into the night. Failing that, how about another staff member at the caf! or even food available. Maybe access to the departure lounge where we could at least have had the facility of chairs. I cannot see how anyone can condone this event and the way it was handled by Tor Air Olympic Holidays

It appears that Tor Air should have provided you with better Article 9 of EC261/2004 Right To Care, but they didn't, perhaps write to them and complain about the situation.

  • Dear All,
I myself were on this delay, and my past overseas exp, as i used to be a rep, supervisor and then manager of an overseas tour operator for the past 13 years, this was totally dealt with no care for the passangers welfare what so ever.....olympic holidays knew we were going to be on a major delay, yes bring us to the airport to get checked in, then what should have happened in my past exp, transport via coach should have been provided to be either taken to a taverna for a meal or snack and after about 8 hours they should have got some accom provided, ok this may not have been possible for rooms etc, then they should have provided a property where we could have sat around had the facilities to sit etc, and also we should have been offered under the denied boarding 2 free phone calls home, of which nothing was mentioned, the problem with this delay and lack of communication with reps airline handling agents etc, the reps were not in my eyes especially the lovely rep andrea who was more concerned with sloping off in a strop, just did not have the experience to deal with this and she should have had a airport supervisor or manager to help her or office help to get this problem and the welfare of the passangers dealt with... on saying this the airline was responsible for all of the above, but unfortunate they did or would not spend any money, because its a mickey mouse company owned by 3 times bankrupt excel sabre etc, so they may be having problems... that is when olympic holidays should have then stepped in to help and organise accom and a meal not toasty sandwiches which were not fit to eat...TOTALLY MESSED UP NO WAY SHOULD WE HAVE SPENT 16 HOURS AT THAT AIRPORT, ANYONE WHO READS THIS MY LETTER ALREADY SENT TO OLYMPIC AND AS FOR THE AIRLINE THE PLANE SHOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN OFF WITH SEATS THAT RECLINE AND STAY RECLINED PLASTIC TAPE TO KEEP THE OVERHEAD LOCKERS FROM OPENING UP...ANYONE WHO IS FLYING TOR AIR PLEASE TRY ANOTHER AIRLINE THIS IS A DISGRACE THE PLANES ARE OVER 18 YEARS OLD AND VERY VERY SHODDY...
  • p.s forgot to mention i will be reporting this airline to the caa for the standard of the planes on the inside, i did not think they were allowed to take off with seats in the reclined position... and i forgot also to mention that we had paid for meals, even though they were all going to be complimentary, however the airline staff did not have any meals for us, and stated he wanted proof of purchase which he tried to state i was pulling a fast one for a meal, again more than myself who went without a meal they had not enough meals to go around, totally disgusting from start to finish.. please anyone who was on this delay, write in, do not let this go, otherwise companies will just keep getting away with this, and its not the way to treat people, i know we all have a valid complaint.

Sorry to bump this and it sounds nowhere near as bad as some other peoples problems but if anyone could advise me who I should contact about the delay i had would be much appreciated (or even if it is worth complaining at all)

    Thanks

    Hello all,

I was wondering who i should contact about my delayed flight.

I purchased my holiday through Thomas Cook website, the tour operator was Olympic and the flights were with a company called Strategic Air.

I was meant to fly out at 1135hrs on 20th May but due to a delay (No Explanation given as to what caused it) we did not fly until 0300hrs on 21st May.

We were put in a room at the airport Hilton around 5pm and a buffet was laid on the we were told to be back at the airport at 1am for the 3am flight. We were also given a £4 voucher at around 2pm in the afternoon.

Does anyone know who i should contact about the delay (and anything in particular that point out to them?)

    Thanks in advance

My wife and I returned from a holiday in Crete last week.
We were scheduled to fly out of Chania at 15:45 21st June 2011, this was delayed until 05:00 on the 22nd June (13.25 hours).

After being collected from our hotel we were informed that there was a 5 hour delay. At the airport we were offered a snack and cold drink and were told to show our boarding cards at the airport cafe.
After passing through to the departure lounge which comsisted of rows of metal bench seats, total facilities being a duty free shop and a small coffee bar.
The coffee bar personnel knew nothing of the snack provision.
We had to go back thropugh security and found out that the 'airport cafe' was outside of the airport some 200yds or so away, bear in mind we were dressed for returning to England had all our hand baggage etc with us and in addition tempuratures of 33C.
We did with difficulty go to the cafe and were offered a cold cheese and ham toastie and a cold drink.
During the course of the additional 8.25 hours we were offered two further chances to take up snacks but after experiencing the first offer did notr bother.
We not offered aany opportunity to telephone or facs or e-mail and were told by the Olympic rep that responsibility lay with the airline (Torair). As far as I am concerned my contract was with Olympic.
We were given a single sheet when we eventually boarded which gave the then supposed latest position regarding the flight but they had run out of the statement which should have detailed our rights etc.
To compound matters most seats on the plane would not stay in the upright position and many table catches were broken so the tables continually dropped.
The flight time was 4 hours 10 minutes so all in all a horendous journey.

My question is "Am I entitled to compensation?"

ps I am also registered disabled with walking difficulties.

    Hello,

I have just returned finaly back to the Uk from Gran Canaria this evening a day and a half after we should have. If the plane had "technical problems" does this mean I cannot cliam under the European Regulation 261/2004 act?
