  • I think having seen this a LOT of Americans will boycott the airline for fear of receiving the same treatment.

It was inevitable that fares would have to rise to cover the cost of the claims!
Remembering (with difficulty) my undergraduate economics, item production costs bear only the loosest connection to price. Much more important is demand. Of course everyone tells you that the cost of whatever it is will have to go up because of this or that but this is mostly fiction - much more important is pitching the cost of your woggle at a price that maximises overall profit via grabbing market share. I don't see Jet2 prices on the up after they based an aircraft in Alicante.
  • Some years ago my family (of four) were sat on a plane in Orlando for a flight to Manchester. A charming lady got on board and announced they needed 4 volunteers as the flight was overbooked. She offered $800 then $1000 plus hotel. She asked if there were any questions and someone asked about the no volunteer situ - she became almost tearfully apologetic and said that in that case people would be picked randomly although families would not be split up. Anyway she chucked in an upgrade on the next day's flight (I was all for it but the missus thought it was important the children got back to school on time chiz) and volunteers duly emerged. She escorted them (alone) from the plane saying how sorry she was and arranging extras like a pickup from the hotel and she would call them later bla bla. Could have done with her on this flight I guess.

    No doubt more will emerge....
  • I have just read in the Grauniad that UA shares have dropped by $1bn (not a misprint). Taxi for the CEO!

Hi, is anyone else having problems or delays with claims for lightening strike with bott and co. I feel like I'm being given the run around for a flight delay last march. I was told there was an appeal in Dec by the airline involved in the Jan 2016 case which they lost again. I was then told that they had applied for the stay to be lifted in court in January, now in April and no further. I was told they will chase on x date but that goal post keeps moving. Apparently there is no escalation process or time limit to get the court to respond. Today I've been told they are waiting for the hearing to be concluded in May, which is totally different to previous explainations.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Holkins - suggest you pick up the 'phone and speak with Kevin Clarke at Bott & Co to get the accurate picture.
  • Hi
I was on a Malaysia Airlines flight last Wednesday from LHR to Phuket, via Kuala Lumpur. The flight departed on time, but turned back after about an hour due to a passenger becoming ill
We were kept on board for 3.5 hours before departing again. Is this worth a claim?

extraordinary circumstances means EU261 does not apply
  • Would perhaps be a bit harsh to claim even if you could. That humane decision will have cost the airline a lot of money in fuel, landing & take off fees, ground handling, etc. etc.

But why do they keep them on the aircraft for so long given that it's a long flight to start with and they'd already had 2 hours in the air (1 hour out and 1 hour back).
