spooky i would love to know how you adapt your recipe to other things
Well a couple of very easy examples are (i.e. the ones I know by heart and don't need to consult my bible for as it's back home!):
1) chocolate
sift in approx 2tbsp of cocoa powder to make chocolate cake.... and fill with plain or choc buttercream (recipe provided on request!) or a very luxorious amazing, slightly time consuming chocolate fudge type concoction nicked off Delia which I can look up for you when I get home if you like
2) lemon
grate in the rind of a lemon to the mix(optional). When the cake comes out of the oven and is still warm !!!!! it all over with a skewer then pour lemon syrup over it. Lemon syrup is very easy to make - simply mix some lemon juice (I'd say maybe 3 fingers high in a mug to be v.technical about things!) with some granulated sugar - maybe approx half as much as there was lemon juice (these measurements really don't matter much - bung some lemon juice and sugar in a cup basically) then blast it in the microwave for 30-60 seconds and give it a stir so the sugar melts. then pour it over the cake. this results in an AMAZING moist lemon sponge. You can then sandwich it with lemon curd (either shop bought or I can give you a recipe if you want one) and cover it with lemon icing - just icing sugar with lemon juice instead of water. sprinkle with lemon rind gratings or use those little jelly lemon and orange shapes that supercook make. it's a real treat!
a slight alternative to this is if you're making a smaller cake in a 1lb loaf tin to make up the syryp with more sugar so it doesn't all dissolve and pour that over the cake - as the cake cools you'll find you get crunchy lemony sugar bits on top so no need to decorate and again, very yummy.
Note to self... must bake cake! Have been getting hints at work as i've not made a cake for a week or two! I don't even like cake but I love making it (as does everyone else) what a dafty!
Hope this helps....
let me know if you want any other types of recipes, i have millions both of other peoples (largely delias) and my own xx0 -
Spendaholic - if you're serious, it might be worth trying a baby training seat and see if kitten gets the idea if you put her on it (with her little legs splayed, so she's standing on it, obviously) every time she heads for the bathroom. I know it sounds mad, but I have heard of cats standing on the toilet seat to go - mind you, would you want to use a seat the cat stood on, even if it was disinfected?
I was jesting, actually - more interested in how to stop her doing it in the first place. I have to close the bathroom door. She loves watching water disappear down a hole so does sit on the side of the toilet when it's being flushed. If she ever did use it, I think I'd die of shock. When she sneaks one in, I have to bleach and disinfect the sink and everything.
I've seen cats drink out the toilet bowl before, and in the Ben Stiller film Meet the Fokkers, Robert De Niro has already trained his cat to use the loo and is now training him to flush it. But, even so ...
Thanks for the suggestion. And good luck with your cat's trip to the vet.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -

I DID IT !!!!!
I made butter - and it is really yummy - DH laughing though because I made a right mess and enough butter for 6 monthsEveryone seemed to be saying that a lot of cream makes a little bit of butter so I bought loads and loads of cream (still only cost me £2.24 though !!) So I have butter in the fridge, the freezer and butter waiting to be made in to Garlic butter.
Might have to try and post pictures later :rotfl:
Well I am feeling a bit better after this morning  I have to go and see the doctor though because I am scared my depression is returning - I only came off the anti-d's because of the pregnancy so DH is saying I have to go and get checked out.
Hope every one else is having a great day
Ivyleaf - Hope your cat is ok ((hugs))
PP - Sounds like you got some really good bargins - £46 isn't a lot really when you look at what you got and how much you saved !!!
Spendaholic - Your post made me laugh - have you ever seen Meet The Paretns and Meet The Fockers where they have trained the cat to use the toilet AND flush it afterwards :rotfl: Just had visions of your kitty doing the same.
((hugs)) to anyone who needs them - Thank you all for the hugs earlier.
T xx0 -
Tashja: Ha, ha - couldn't remember which one it was. And fancy making butter. Good for you. Never thought of doing that meself.
Well, I have a mate coming at 7pm to help protect my laptop and files, etc, so I'm feeding him. I had a chili mix, some minced lamb, 2 tins of baked beans (don't like tomatoes) and 1 tin of kidney beans, so I just went out and got shrooms and onions to go with it - all organic aside from the mix. Also got some organic wine and some organic cider. I'll be starting that in a bit.
Oh, and collar for the kitten with a HUGE bell on. She keeps bringing home lame creatures. No doubt she's made them lame in the first place.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0 -
Evening All
Not had a minute to post today as I've been mad busy. (((Hugs))) to Shez, I can only echo what others have said, you deserve better.
Anniestar I hope things get better for you soon and Ivyleaf hope your kitty is ok.
Hello to anybody new to the thread and not forgetting good luck to Queenie for her exam tomorrow.
DD is just tucking into her fishcakes, brocolli and chips. We have both had our hair cut this afternoon by my SIL and DD had a play with my neice while we had a coffee and a chat so that was nice.
I got some vouchers for Mr T's yesterday for £4 off a £30 shop so I've been trying to work out my meal plan for the next 2 weeks till DH get paid, think I can do it so we wont be as OD as I thought. I'm so glad that I found OS otherwise I have no idea how bad our finances would be.
Have a good evening everyoneSorting my life out one day at a time0 -

:hello:
Sorry I've been so quiet lately, my computer at home is still playing up (it's usable but a pain in the neck!) and I haven't been able to post much from work since they moved my desk to directly next to my boss
Hello especially to Ticklemouse and Nelski who I have not been in touch with for absolutely ages. If you're reading this, then hi
I am very very busy at the moment. June is always by far the busiest time of the year for me, not sure why really, there just seems to be more on than at any other time. Even though I've toned my life down a lot, this is still the case even if June's not quite as mad as it once was! I have been really disciplined with my spending lately - I have a £50-a-month "reserve fund" (basically short-term savings) which I haven't even touched for the last few months, and it's currently (aided by a few other odds and ends like mystery shopping) standing at £275. I have however given up hope of getting to next payday with that sum still intact - I'd say I'll be lucky to keep it above £200  which is not great when I need to get it up to "new laptop" proportions as soon as possible. Still, life is for living, and I do always expect June to cost money, so I will juggle it somehowTonight I will be extracting £20 from the fund in order to go for a Wetherspoons curry followed by a trip to the Catford Beer Festival with a colleague. I haven't been to a beer festival for ages
And as my colleague finishes work later than I do, I am currently waiting for him which gives me the opportunity to post here... finally
:j
ivyleaf, I hope your cat is OK
Welcome to all of the newbies, I have been trying to read the thread even if I haven't been posting much. Anybody heard from moggins (or should that be moggins revisited) or Valentine x? ((((Hugs)))) to scuzz and anniestar, and to you too AussieLass, I was really sorry to read about your little dog
Oh and Shez, I saw that you lost your job - hope things are moving on positively for you... I've lost track of people's lives a bit!
Right must be off... curry to eat, rare real ales to sample...
Love Rzl xx :wave:Operation Get in Shape

Afternoon
Just sneaking on here before I leave work and head for home.
DH has been looking after the kids today. Well one was at school and one had nursery in the morning - so really he had an easy life. Sure he'll make out it was easy and what do I moan about. He'll conveniently not have done ANY housework, and all dinner was was sausages and hm wedges and broccoli (made sure it was simple enough for him).
Scuzz - please listen to everyone. I'd back off if I were you. Let him know what it feels like. If he doesn't even notice - then he's not worth it.
Well done on the diet Taplady - care to send me some of your willpower? Not that I'll have put on today - had a huge meeting over lunch, others brought their sandwiches in with them, but my HM leek and potato soup would have been a bit embarrasing to turn up with. Not because it's home made, but my slurping away would have been a bit off putting.
take care all. Off to brave the traffic!"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
Just popped back while cooking dinner. Congrats on the payrise scuzz, shame you have to wait until October though.
Also any news from Haribo? I thought she would be back by now
Enjoy your curry and real ale Rzl, me jealous? Never! not when I've got a lovely healthy salad, chicken and new potatoes:rolleyes: (Actually, I do really like that, but reading curry and ale, well you know how it is.......now I really fancy that:D )
Must run, the dinger is dinging and it's getting on my nerves now:rotfl:
