Also need to make cakes - fairy cakes this time, the sponge cake version never rises for me so I make fairy cakes instead :D

I'm a baking addict so just had to offer some advice!

For cakes that rise perfectly every time:
    6oz SR flour
    1.5tsps baking powder
    3 eggs
    6oz stork / butter
    6oz caster sugar

DOUBLE sift the flour and baking powder from a great height into the bowl. sift the sugar in dump in the other ingredients. Use an electric mixer until the mix is perfectly smooth, move it around lots to encourage air to get in and keep going for another 30secs once mixture is smooth. (remember cake rises because of air so extra sifting, sifting from a height, encouraging air in whilst mixing will all help).

pour into 2 lined 7inch tins or similar

Bake at gm 4 for 25mins DO NOT OPEN THE OVEN DOOR UNTIL AT LEAST 20 MINS HAS PASSED.

If this does not work I will be amazed! If it does I can offer you all sorts of ideas about ways to adapt it to different recipes!

    Good luck! xx

Hi all! Haven't posted on the thread for a while but managed to read most days. I've just read through the whole thread but now can't remember what most peaple said!

Scuzz - ((((((((HUGS)))))))) have to agree with what others have said about your BF, you deserve much better hun! So sorry to hear your friend has let you down, too.

Spendaholic - What a shame about your baskets! Infuriating, especially if you are right about where they've gone!

Penny-Pincher - I hope you feel a bit better today and that the new meds will help eventually!
Linda32 and Wardi (and those who've begun posting since I stopped!) -Welcome! Nice to meet you all.
Kyle - hope your mouth has started to feel better!
Spooky Pooky - the double-sifting sounds a great idea, I shal definitely try that next time!
Hardup Hester - surely the whole point of having a lodger is to bring you much-needed extra income! Yours seems to do nothing but cost you money! I hope you can get rid of her at the end of term and get a better one in her place!

Spendaholic - if you're serious, it might be worth trying a baby training seat and see if kitten gets the idea if you put her on it (with her little legs splayed, so she's standing on it, obviously) every time she heads for the bathroom. I know it sounds mad, but I have heard of cats standing on the toilet seat to go - mind you, would you want to use a seat the cat stood on, even if it was disinfected?

One of our old cats is at the vet today - he's been diagnosed with diabetes so he's having blood tests to see if he'll respond to treatment with insulin. Apparently some cats do and some don't. I don't know whether to hope he does or doesn't - if he does, it would mean insulin injections twice daily, and DH and I are going away for 10 days on Monday so I can't imagine DS injecting him! He's 16 (the cat, not DS - he's 22) so would we just be in the same situation a few months down the line anyway, as his kidneys are dodgy, wondering whether it would be kinder to just say goodbye to him? Very fond of him though, he was born in my wardrobe! Oh well, we'll wait and see what the tests show.

At least getting up earlier than usual to take him to the vet meant I got the washing-up etc done nice and early! Have been for pre-holiday haircut too, so feel very smart atm. While I was having it done, DH wandered down the town and there was a French market on so he got me a Tarte au Citron as a sort of curtain-raiser for the holiday (we're going to France!) and also I think he's trying to be extra kind to me because he knows I'm sad to think of losing my cats, bless his heart. :A

Got to go now and sort out what clothes to take away - I'm sure there are a couple of t-shirts right at the back of the top of my wardrobe, so might have to get the stepladder out to see. I can step on the scales, but it only gives me a couple of extra inches and besides, it's frightening if I look at the dial by mistake!:rotfl:

Hope everyone has a good afternoon, and ((((HUGS)))) to all who are poorly or unhappy today.

Ivyleaf loads of hugs and love to you. Been there done that and its hard to know what is best. If its any consolation, often you just somehow just "know".
If you do decide to try the treatment route then and you are worried about the injections whilst you are away then if you are within a say 50mile radius(sp??) of Manchester I will gladly do it for you.(Am pretty nifty in treating cats having been involved with cat rescue for far more years than it is healthy to admit to:rotfl: :rotfl: ) Seriously If this is of any use whatsoever please consider it done. Something at the back of my tiny mind tells me you are in the South East which I couldn't do sadly. If your cat was a bit younger and in slightly better health I'd say we could have him up here and treat him for you but sadly I htink the journey may well make things worse for him PLEASE PLEASE if I can do ANYTHING for you that might help, contact me. Take care, A xxxx

EDIT: Oh, and the kitten has taking to peeing in the bathroom sink ... yes, really. How do I retrain her to use the toilet ...?

Mine uses the toilet...................to drink from!!! Doesn't matter how many clean, fresh bowls of water I put down, he has to drink from the loo. We try and keep the lid down at all times but you know what kids are like....I often walk in to find 2 muddy paw print half way down the bowl and 2 on the seat - bless him!

It's been a busy & stressful week so far, roll on the weekend! Enforced working from home today as my car's in for a service - it's done & they're about to deliver it back, but I refused to pay until I've checked it over. They're notoriously poor at doing little things like stamping the service book or turning off the "service due" warning message, so I said I'd pay once it was back here & I'd checked it. That's not unreasonable is it? You'd have thought I was asking for the service manager to sever his own leg off with a rusty bread knife!
This week's been all "work eating" so far - meals out & takeaways, so I'm looking forward to a nice salad tonight. I've got some tandoori chicken marinading & it smells delicious! A trip to the gym is long overdue tonight as well.
    Here's my car.............hugs to all.

We went to the allotment this morning, took up the composting bin that was delivered last week. Picked a lot of yummy strawberries, had some for lunch. Planted the tommy's, pepper and courgette.........moved a rosemary and sage plant into the new herb bed. OH put up the bean sticks and planted the 3 beans that have grown, also put in some lettuce seedlings, beetroot and checked the brassicas I put in last week, thankfully the pigeons have not been able to get through the netting I put over them, so we do have some left and they are growing well.

OH finished up the scotch broth, I had bread and cheese for lunch followed by strawberries and yoghurt, I have started off another lot of yoghurt and strained the elderflower cordial, 1 1/2 litres for me and 2 1/2 litres for my friend. Smelt gorgeous as I was straining it.
Beef Paprika and rice for supper, got some organic beef reduced in Mr T's........its been in the freezer for 2 months, time it was used up.

OH doing his jigsaw, I have to go and pick up DH from work, one of the cupboard doors is wonky will not shut properly............

Off to check my stuff on ebay...................
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

    Good Afternoon All

Im nipping into town after the school run, I need some wool. Ive been meaning to get some baby wool for ages now to crochet a shawl for my baby-sitter's baby, she's due 10th july, so Id better get cracking!

Plus I want to find out more about this weight loss implant from the chinese herbalist shop! A girl at work had it done 6 months ago, and has gone from a size 20-22 to a size 14. You can eat as you normaly would, no exercise involved, and its money back guaranteed. Despite me losing the 5lb, Ive stayed the same weight recently regardless what I do/eat etc!

Ooooh Emily has been removed from the BB house, for using a racist word!

Still dull here in Derbyshire. weather wise!

FBThree - kittens dont stay babies forever. He sounds adorable.

(((hugs))) to scuzz & annie star!
Ivyleaf - Im sorry to hear about your cat! Its an awfull decision to make, I was there a couple of months ago, when the vet diagnosed my persian with kidney failure. It was heartbreaking, but looking back, I can see I did the right thing. I miss him terribly, but since I got "Charlie" recently from the cats protection league, it has taken away the empty space! Im sure you will make the right decision.

Right best be off, and get the uniforms ironed ready for work/school tomorrow.
    Catch you later
    Love Emma xx
