  • The only thing I have so far been unable to wean him off is his mug of instant soup in the morning, but I'm sure I'll get that one too in the end......
    urgghhhhh!!!

I kept one loaf of value bread in the freezer so that they had 'shop bread' available when I started making HM bread regularly. At first I had to keep replacing it but now the same one has been sitting there for ages - perhaps because DS3 has learnt to use the bread knife!
    Getting there...slowly! :D

    GC : must do better
    NSD: very rare

No matter how slow I go I am lapping everyone on the couch.

Just wanted to say ... I finally got round to making some of Twinks' hobnobs this morning and they are delicious :) I didn't have any golden syrup in so I used some honey instead, and I added a couple of pieces of stem ginger, chopped. I've now got a trayful of delicious, buttery, gingery hobnobs in the kitchen and they smell wonderful :) Must ... stay ... away ...

Twink your recipe lives on. Just made my first batch and they have half gone already. Hubby popped in from work with his mate as they were cooling on the side, turned my back for 1 min and they were history. Big thumbs up from both lads and myself as well (yes I have managed to have one!).

:rotfl: No really that greedy! However I did make them quite big, going to make them smaller next time, so I can get more from the mixture. But the recipe does make loads doesn't it!

Really impressed - any way I've been a bit nerdy this afternoon, and I've done a costing comparison thingy and I've worked out that using your recipe that's posted at the beginning of this thread, the total cost for ingredients is 65p. This yields a batch of biscuits weighing 840g (sorry I work in metric). When you work it out that's 8p for 100g of product. According to mysupermarket, Hobnobs are 22p for 100g of product, so the recipe is nearly 3 times cheaper. OS wins again.....................:T

PS Prices were taken from mysupermarket using the Asda prices 'cos that's where I shop. I used the costs for the basic/smartprice stuff. Of course if folk already have stuff in or have got stuff on offer etc this would adjust the price. I just thought I would have a look out of interest. The oven being on has to be taken in consideration as well, however, most OStylers would bake when the oven is on anyway - like I did this lunch time :D

Elliesmum thats very interesting plus you know whats in the homemade biscuits, i use smartprice porridge oats, asda flour and usually stork margarine as they are mostly just for me, i agree about having the oven on anyway, i was making a cake for dgs3 so did some hobnobs too

I have made hobnobs using "posh porridge" inexplicably RTC in the Co-Op (bbe Aug 08??) It contains dried raspberries and cranberrys - they work fine and are even more delicious :D (if that's possible..)

I made plain twinkys and he had a packet of aero bubbles whereby he placed one aero bubbles chocolate ontop of the warm hobnob and waited for it to melt lol

glad they were a success, there are lots of variations for the recipe but i like the sound of the aero bubbles :D

you can add dried ginger or cinnamon, sultanas, nuts, choc chips etc individually to the mix if you want
