aussielass, i think the secret is butter, which i think you had used as opposed to the soft marg, but it has just to be melted and no more, it doesnt do to be too hot
glad you liked them shogs and claudie, i would stick with the butter i think

No I made sure my butter wasn't too hot Twink. :p I put 3 cups of oats in. How many would you have put in?

    Great recipe!

Mixed dry ingredients, changed DS's nappy fed and cuddled. Melted other ingredients and mixed. Retrieve DS from under chair, cuddled put back on playgym, cuddled some more. Sorted out bottles for feeds. Greased trays. Changed and fed DS again. Baked biscuits.

    I'm glad it's not a fancy sponge!

DH loved them, and I think they may become a fixture, especially as they are so tolerant.

(Second time forgot bicarb as DS was complaining and I was rushing to get to him - not as good. Will definitely try ginger though.)
    Always another chapter

  • I was in Costco yesterday and bought a National Trust Cookbook for a friend's birthday and it had the hobnobs recipe in it! IT was only 4oz of everything and quarter tsp bicarb and 2tsps of syrup but it was exactly the same. The book was called The National Trust Complete Traditional Recipe Book by Sarah Edington and it had all kinds of traditional OS stuff in it. I might just have to go back and get one for myself. It was £12.99 which is quite steep but it is a VERY thick book and the cover price was £25. They have it on Amazon too but it is £16 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Traditional-Recipe-Sarah-Edington/dp/190540042X/ref=sr_1_1/203-3006803-6883156?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1185540757&sr=8-1

spendaholic, do what i do and request it from the library and have a good look at it first, then if you only fancy a few recipes write them down, the book i got the recipe from is Bread, Cakes and Biscuits by Mary Norwak, 1978

phew hev, at least you got there in the end :D
aussielass the recipe in grams is
225g sr flour, 225g sugar, 225g porridge oats, 225g margarine, not sure about cupfuls, think the dry mix happened to kyle too and we thought butter maybe too hot, next time, with cooler butter it was okay, hope you have another go

Just wanted to say thanks twink, just made some "twinks"! and they are fantastic! I have eaten 3 already but that was only because they were funny looking shapes and slightly browner than the rest! ;)

Hope there will be some left for kids tomorrow lol!
