Homemade hobnobs?

Twink - Your recipe looks great - but I've realised I've got no bicarb in the house. Do you think I could use baking powder instead, should I just miss it out, or shall I wait until I next have to go to the shops?0

The hobnobs weren't fantastic in that instead of being crunchy (like shop bought hobnobs) they were chewy/soggy  , I wonder if that was cos I used soft margarine? Or didn't cook them enough? They were lovely the minute they came out of the oven, but I don't like soggy/chewy biscuits!0

Denbo that happened to me as well- I was so disappointed!
I also used soft margarine.
The next time I made them I used butter- huge difference.
Try again with butter.0 -
Denbo, i always use the stork block marg but will try butter, have never used the soft marg, getting the timing right in the oven is important too, maybe you took yours out a bit too soon, i would leave them a wee bit longer next time
nell, i think it has to be bicarb
also remember that the block marg and butter is a bit over the 8oz in weight0 -
skinnygirlnot and twink, thanks for your replies! TBH, as I was typing my last note I thought maybe soft marg was not the right thing! I was really disappointed as I had raved about the hobnobs and my kids were looking forward to them, then when I made them everyone was really polite and ate one, then slunk off..........................
I will have another go and surprise the lot of them! (Hopefully):beer:0 -
The same happened to me, butter is the answer!0
