bicarb is there as its a light raising agent and it gives you the little crack type lines on the top of the biscuits
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you

i have no idea what they look like, but if they look like porridge oats, maybe worth a try, i would replace the tbsp of syrup with one of water though as it might be too sweet

I cheated when making these for the umpteenth time and decided rather than rolling them out into little balls I would press into a very large baking tray (was pushed for time). I used one of the school kitchen sized baking trays (nearly as big as my over shelf) and they came out perfect and just cut them into squares once cooled.

No problem Twink. I lined the tray with a bit of baking paper rather than greasing it. Really easy. As I said in my post I used one of the large school oven trays (using quantities as in recipe) so standard sized baking trays you might need 2.

Made my first batch tody too and they are lovely!! I put a milk button in about a dozen or so just because there was a treat size pack lying there....next time I may try adding a very small amt of dried blueberries.

    Thanks again :T

  • Made another batch of these to take to a friend's house yesterday - she and her family loved them. This time I baked them for 10 minutes and then let them cool slightly and then put them back into the oven on 120 for about 5 minutes and they went lovely and crisp but not brown - just like proper hobnobs in fact!! My friend was really impressed and as I was going home asked if I could find out how to make rondello biscuits - I have never heard of them; she said they were discontinued about 15 years ago but she loved them. Has anyone any idea what they were like?
