Right, I'm off to make some now. Will report back once they're done.

ETA: Substituting half of the butter/marge with peanut butter was an unmitigated disaster, I ended up with what looked like oaty breadcrumbs which would not stick together so I added more melted marge an ounce at a time until it left the bowl clean. By the time I'd finished it was the whole amount of marge PLUS the peanut butter. BUT THEY"RE DELICIOUS! It's a pity that they're now probably about 500 calories a flipping bite
  • OMG. Made these for the first time last night and they are simply gorgeous. Made half the recipe, and had 14 large ones. Next time i make them, i will make them slightly flatter and smaller. mmmmm.

I made my usual traybake of these yesterday for the half term munchies ;)

To anyone who was thinking about doing them as a traybake - do it as it's so easy! I mix the recipe as it says and then pour it into a greased & lined baking tray. Flaten it out slightly and bake at gas 6 for about 15 mins. Leave to go cold in the tin then cut into fingers/squares. I use 10oz of everything as my tray is big (and I have 4 children) but my friend uses smaller trays from Poundland and gets 2 trays worth from the usual 8oz mixture :)

By the way out of the DOUBLE batch I made yesterday there is just under one batch left :rotfl:

Thank you Twink. I only had enough butter to make half a batch and didnt have enough caster sugar so i used a mixture of caster sugar and light brown sugar and reduced it by 1oz. Put in all the mincemeat I had left and made it into a tray bake. Just had a slice and it is lovely!!! I have got 6 little jars of mincemeat that I got cheap and put away for next christmas but i really dont think they will last that long now!!!!!!!!

    Thanks again.
  • thank you sunny girl, my mistake was marking / cutting prior to baking, so now I will do it after baking!

and she finally worked out after 4 months, how to make that quote her sig! :rotfl:
  • Well I finished off the first batch today (very proud that they lasted that long, I have more willpower than I thought!) so I had to make another! I reduced the oats and flour a little and added coconut and sunflower seeds, just to see how they'd turn out. I have eaten 4 in the last hour so I'd say they're pretty good! Not really hobnobby in texture, quite chewy, and they spread more during baking than original Twinks but delicious all the same. I might just go and check they're still edible...

i can feel my head swelling as i sit here :D really they are simple to make, i usually get about 45-50 from my mix and there are so many variations that people have posted about, even making them as a traybake and that cuts the time making them even more, really glad you were pleased with the recipe

45-50 OMG!!! I use this recipe (thank you thank you thank you :D) for home use and as an easy recipe for taking when going to friends (my very pregnant friend ate the whole batch last time - in ONE sitting :silenced:) but I must make them huge cos I think I only got about 16-20 out of the mix :o
Ah well at least it means I only eat 1(or 2) at at time :rotfl:

might be easier doing the mix as a traybake then you can portion it a bit easier, cut in slices after baking, see sunnygirls post
