Had to laugh as they were standing round the oven watching them cook.
I have to hide them in the highest cupboard.:D
snow here in Moray too, glad the boys enjoyed making the biscuits, just the thing for a cold day0 -
Today I am making Twink's Hobnobs.
Here's a link to the recipe if you've not found it yet http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=5392435&postcount=1 (it's easy to find 1000 mentions of it, but if you're new then finding it can be hard)
I think I will be halving the mix as those ingredients are a full 1Kg and there's only me!
I've not used cheapo oats, but I'll explain that all later. I expect to be taking photos too... hang on, shouldn't have said that, I might really c0ck this up!!
I expect to have these finished in the next 3-4 hours ....0 -

Came in, bit nippy today, so I turned the fan heater on (first use this winter) - and in 15 seconds it set the fire alarm off. So... better get the oven on quick!
Next, weighed out the dry stuff. No problems, scales work a treat. And at this point I could start to understand the volume, so I knew which saucepan to use.... the biggest one I have. Which needed washing up. So now waiting for the kettle to boil so I can wash that out.
It's not easy doing this cooking lark is it!0 -
I realised I'd read the recipe wrong. I didn't need a big saucepan, that is only for melting the butter, so just needed a small one. I thought I had to add the dry ingredients into the saucepan, but it's the other way round.
I had a few problems getting the ball size right and flattening them (they started to fall apart a little. So I took a slower approach and it took me about a minute each to create the ball and flatten it carefully (holding the sides as I flattened), then I put them on the baking tray.
OK. I got them as far as the oven. It's made 14.
Costings:
£0.32 Oats - I used some big grain oats with sultanas and apple. £1.29/500g,
£0.10 Sugar - I used Light sugar, that's half the calories, all the sugar I had.
£0.47 Butter - I didn't have marg
£0.11 Flour
£0.02 Golden Syrup and Bicarb. Not much used, might even be 1p
===
£1.02 for 14
7.2p each
I'll have photos when they come out of the oven.... and after I've tasted one. Or two.
Just looked through the oven window: oops .... they grow outwards when they cook... didn't expect that. So they were too close together on the tray... have to see what happens. I might have a 15" hobnob pizza!0 -

they look lovely, i might have left them in the oven a bit longer but i like mine crisp, well done to you
nimbo you have to be sure that the marg is melted and no more, if its too hot it seems to be absorbed to quick and the mix is dry, once you add the fat, stir it all in quickly, you could add essence if you want, i usually add dried ginger, i think the crunchieness depends how long you bake them for0
