I have never been interviewed for a different job - who does that's!!?
Sometimes employers have more than one opening and during selection may perceive the applicants skills may suit another post better. So employer may keep their options open, eg if an applicant is in the last few candidates the employer may feel they're not the strongest for the post applied but would fit another post and in that instance they've interviewed for two posts at once.

True, there is conditionality attached. When we pay tax and NI it's on condition that we have a safety net when we lose our jobs AND subject to meeting conditionality of the allowance that is applied for.
I've paid into this system since I was 16, you're telling me that was for nothing and I'd have to beg and be grateful when I asked them to come good on their end of the deal? Odd how it doesn't seem to matter when people pop over here to live and jump on the benefits system they haven't paid a penny into and where we couldn't dream about doing the same in their country of origin.
Don't dare tell me that immigrants all graft their rear ends off either, waking past my local jobcentre you'll hear very little English being spoken.

I'm amazed how easily the British public can be turned on a minority without any good reason by politicians, reminds me of another guy in the late 30's in Germany who did the same. Those who fail to heed their history are doomed to repeat it.
    Corrected for you.

    Corrected for you.

So, you like the idea of people having to beg for the money that they should be entitled to, after paying into the system do you?

Do you not see how wrong this is? Would you think its right to beg for NHS treatment, or education for your children?

I thought not. And yet we pay for these services in exactly the same way.

People who have paid into the system for years and suddenly find themselves unemployed are precisely those people who will work hard to get back into work asap - they don't need the threat of punishment you seem to think they do. They have earned the right to the safety net without being suddenly branded a benefit scrounger, or workshy.

Totally agree with this. People who have worked for years and suddenly find themselves redundant shouldn't have to beg for what is rightfully theirs.

And people like sensibleadvice fall hook line and sinker for the government propaganda that suggests all unemployed are lazy and not looking for work.
Been there, done that and didn't feel the need to beg or that anything was rightfully mine.

If people have been made redundant after years of work they'll have at least a statutory package, often more. Whilst they may be able to get cont based JSA for a few months, they may not be eligible after that due to being over capital thresholds.

It's amazing how many can't grasp and accept conditionality around the benefits they wish to claim.

In fact you NEVER have to have paid any tax or NI to get the NHS.

I would worry about those types more.

I think you will find people do grasp it perfectly well. It just suits your nasty little agenda to bash the unemployed.

I am not suggesting there should not be some conditions - but the sanction regime in place now is disgusting. Because lets be honest - that is your actual reason for posting here. To demean the unemployed.

And yes, I know. I am wasting my breath ....

I was at my last company 4 years and 49 weeks (almost 5 years) and left with one month PILON and 4 weeks statutory redundancy which was £££ less than my weekly salary.

Not a great figure at all.

Don't answer him/her. They will find a way to label you a no good scrounger based on your reply.
