There are jobs - who's said there isn't? - but there are far more jobseekers.
If every job was filled there would still be millions unemployed. What is your miraculous solution for those people?

It's also fair to say that there are vacancies. However, not every vacancy has a genuine job behind it. One has to sort the wheat from the chaff a lot more these days.

I see the same jobs advertised time and time again and have mentioned this to my JC advisor. I've told her I have applied for these 'vacancies' - several times - and what am I supposed to do, keep applying? Her response was 'Yes' - with a ..' I know it's a waste of time, but...' look on her face.
Even the JC know there's a lot of chaff out there!

When I get chance I'll post a few gems.

Rather than posting bad examples, don't you think it would be more helpful to post some good examples?

I was referring to their whole application. Things like poor spelling and grammar, poor handwriting (yes some do still write), cliched responses, cut and pastes, one lazy sentence where a paragraph in expected, no examples or evidence given...I could go on. When I get chance I'll post a few gems.
Don't, you're not helping anybody with your lazy prejudiced negativity & bad attitude.

Indeed. In fact perhaps one of them could even start a thread "Barriers to finding employment" where specific barriers could be listed and solutions posted to them.
yes if someone wishes to do that they can.

poor quality is not evidence of a negative attitude towards the jobcentre etc. i am sure many who do what you say have no issue with the jobcentre and its schemes at all.

I agree that for many your opening sentence is true, but what about the remainder, why are they still long term unemployed?

Not enough jobs to go round perhaps.
Of course I wouldn't expect you to agree with me because you say there are jobs aplenty.
Most of the negative posters on here are in the former. Some however are in the remainder as you say. People like iammumtoone who has been out of work some time but at least acknowledges what they may be doing wrong as is prepared change that or train, go to college etc.

I'm pretty certain I haven't said there are jobs aplenty. Can you show me where you've got this from?

It's not a case of not enough jobs to go round - the ones that are available aren't being filled by LT unemployed. Of course they'll argue they're in a downward spiral and employers won't give them a chance but they are responsible for getting into that spiral in the first place so have to take responsibility to get out of it. The reality of that is doing whatever it takes.

Every job being filled is a hypothetical situation. The reality is there are always jobs turning over.

Ask yourself why the long term unemployed with years of experience in applying, perfecting CVs, interview technique etc can't secure the jobs that are there over someone who's relatively newer to the job market? Why do you think that is? How do these newer applicants go through the same system and get out the other end when 'experienced' jobseeksers can't?

That ma be true. But again someone new to jobseeking has to figure all that out. Long term job seekers should have that worked out and be at an advantage on that front.
