Speaking as an adviser dealing with WP returners, I've found the general customers who have come back and are after some support and help are happy that they're getting some help in whatever guise it takes.
i assume you realise alot of people tell you what you want to hear. so alot of the time when they say yeah great i will do that what they are really thinking is oh fu**ing hell not more bo**ocks.

I always ask people why thye are not in work, how many jobs they are applying for, how many regular interviews and try to get to the bottom.

this approach is horrible because it feels like you are blaming them. it certainly feels like that when i have been asked those things.

I'm well aware people say a lot of things just because they feel they should and for those people that's fine. All they have to do is to comply with the conditions and nothing more. You can tell the ones that need and want help and it's quite easy to see when people are engaged with something.

It is generally about the way that you deal with people. Treat people like crap and expect the same back...I don't treat em like that and get the response back that that treatment affords.

I have not said I blame them, people are quick to say JCP do this and that and it is of no help to them, they want to know why we don't offer something useful,. So i ask why they feel that are not in work, maybe I can then I can offer something based on what they feel is a barrier to employment.

i.e . If they have not had an inteview for ages suggest their C.V. may not be tailored to each specific job and may need support and confidence for interviews.
What ever we say it always going to cause offence to soemone by the sound of it.

It suggests (and I have it in writing) that a lot of agencies and companies will not interview you if you have been out of work 6 months or longer.

Also people getting turned down for having too much experience no one can change that (also have that in writing)

They have agreed with me that is a barrier that no one can do anything about.

it is harder the longer you are out of work but never give up.

A colleague had a lady start work today who hasn't work in almost 20 years, she did some voluntary work for about 6 months, then we offered her 8 week work experience she was offered a part time position after the work expereince of 8 hrs per week, she took this then managed to secure a second job at 20 hours. Today was hopefully her last day on JSA.
She has been through new deal, flexible new deal and the work programme.

No you didn't. You mandated her (i.e. forced her) onto MWA. It's this sort of disingenuous twisting of the reality of the situation that gives Jobcentre advisers their well deserved poor image.

The person in question hadn't worked in over 20 years so I think they would have nothing remotely current skill wise to use in the work place so I think a placement or something in this case is a lot different to people who have only been out of work a year or 2
