Two of us have said its a one on one

it was a group about 17 of us in a room lasted about half an hour. They went through all the changes and basically listed how tough it was going to get and what was expected of you and sanctions you could get etc. There is going to be a new thing next March called a claimants commitment.

Its nothing to do with getting you a job its about making it very hard for you. At the end we had to answer silly questions ive answered before about why dont you have a job, what can the jc do to help you etc. Then it said where do you see yourself in 6-months time. I would love to have put lying on a beach abroad after winning the lotto.:T

    Next appt 2 weeks time.

Wow a group!! You are the only one who has had a group apt and I don't know why as your JSA should have been changed again in a one on one.

What you have been told is not what they have told me at all.

See its a lot of made up stuff and NO structure at all

I think jcp are told to get as many off benefits as possible and leave it up to the individual job centers to achieve this by whatever means they see fit with the tools provided, sanctions, daily signing etc. etc.

I am not daily signing nor been threatened with or had a sanction.

It seems they just don't want people in the building as they have no time to see everyone and its just on repeat when you do.

  • they've threatened me with sanctions twice - both times because they changed what they wanted recorded about job search and they are making it up as they go along
    It upset me mightily

John1993 you still haven't answered the question as to would 'your' bank consider the long term unemployed?

I bet they wouldn't and that's why you are looking abroad!!

Yes, we took on a senior trader recently who had been out of work for three years. Of course, it's quite rare for good people to spend so long out of work. Some do, but most top people will simply take up a job offer before then.

You do understand, I assume, that there are not many top candidates who spend years out, don't you? Imagining that there are reams of excellent people on the dole makes no sense. The best people tend to be employed most of the time.

Wow! When you get made redundant you too may be were some of us are

Now lets get the thread back on track please!!

I've been made redundant before, it's pretty common in this business. I had the choice of taking the first thing that was Ok, or holding out for exactly what I wanted. The second took a bit more time, but the first option meant that I was only out for a couple of weeks.

I must admit, with some of the entitled attitudes I see on here, though, that I can see why some posters will probably never work again. They truly stink.

you think most unemployed are 'holding out' for the right job?

I have applied for all sorts and been knocked back for all reasons and I had a job offer for anything I would have taken it.

Not true when companies turn people down for having too much experience as they want a junior and wont entertain someone with 15+ years experience.

3 companies have done that to me recently and the JC have no power to do anything about that. So how do I get them to interview me for a junior role when they made it out to be a Staff Accountants job? Companies over state the job and people apply only to be told 'oh this is a juniors role'
