It's not bad at all though. There are plenty of jobs out there; my bank finds it so hard to get good staff that we have to recruit from overseas, for example.
There are also myriad opportunities for self employment. Turn up at our front desk with a shoe shine kit, and you could probably start tomorrow cleaning shoes at £3 a pair. Stand out the front handing out cards and you could have people pay you to take in and return dry cleaning.
So your process is flawed and you want people to risk a non-guaranteed cash-flow?0 -

No, our process is not flawed at all. When I say that we find it hard! I mean that we need to search far and wide to find the staff that we want. There just aren't that many people out her with the right skills.
As to wanting people to "risk" anything, I don't want them to do anything, I was just pointing out that there are opportunities of all sorts if people want them.0 -

Which comes with a lot of risk and isn't always worthwhile0 -

Well, what can I say. Your attitude to this has lead you to where you are, and mine has lead me to where I am. If we are both happy, and well, then either approach obviously works well enough.
I have my suspicions that refusal to try is more likely to lead to the dole than to a good job, but my statistical sample isn't huge.0 -
John1993 you still haven't answered the question as to would 'your' bank consider the long term unemployed?
I bet they wouldn't and that's why you are looking abroad!!We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I doubt it, even though some of those long-term unemployed are probably graduates who could do a very good job.
Considering the banking sector, it wouldn't be a stretch for anybody to do a better job.
Given the baffling necessity to have shoe shiners and dry cleaning runners in a banking institution, I'm getting the impression having a non-native employee base may be to create a certain customer-staff dynamic for this business.0 -

You know nothing about me
You condemn for my wanting people to be able to afford to be self employed0 -
