I feel a bit jealous

Perhaps you're envious that they live their lives happily, and freely without caring what other people think, whilst you quite clearly do care.0

In Berkshire, my engagement at 17 years and 10 months was looked on with approval - as was the length of the engagement (2 years 2 months).0 -
And what's that to do with the price of fish?????
Actually, the type of hotels that I deal with are private family hotels with gardens - albeit gardens of more that an acre (well actually my previous house had a half-acre garden).
But I digress - my wedding photographs were taken outside the church where we were married (as was the custom in those days).
No 1 son's wedding photographs were taken in the grounds of the registry office where they were married; my daughter's wedding photographs were taken on the verandah and gardens of the hotel where we had the reception and no 3 son's wedding photographs were taken in the grounds of the castle where they were married
Where the photographs of a wedding are taken is completely irrelevant to the marriage that the wedding precedes. It is only a day at the start of a life together.
From my ancient point of view, it would appear that the amount of money spent on a wedding equates to the length of a marriage - the more money spent on one day, the less time the couple stay together.
As my old granny would say - "it's all fur coat and no knickers"!
The more i talk to friends and family about our wedding the more i think the day is for them!! They want all the bells and whistles whilst we want a quiet small ceremony followed by a hog roast on the 'grounds' of my OH's dad's house (with a marquee over incase the british weather strikes!).
Everyones like 'oooo you can't have the reception there! it HAS to be at a hotel or stately home!'
Me and my OHs thinking is that he loved his childhood being brought up in that house, so its only fitting we take the leap to marriage in the same house and village church!0 -
But the weddings in my family took place in the brides' family homes ......0

You have judged this newly-engaged couple and found them wanting - that is according to your over-inflated idea of how things should work.
I don't care where you live - I just can't imagine anywhere in the UK where someone would say 'You've got engaged at 21? How embarrassing! My dear, that is just not the done thing in our area'.
And here's where you said that - just in case you decide to delete it.

Sorry but it's not, the only other engaged people I know are teen mothers.0 -

Well you now know plenty on here engaged in the early twenties and younger!
Some find love early (i met my OH when i was 14)
Some fall in love quickly
Some have love at first sight
It doesn't matter as long as the couple are happy0
