Yes school hols are a big problem. So Gran's issue is having her grandchild all day? Can not mum cater for everything the child needs or - sorry to repeat myself- is it Gran's time she wants payment for?

Gran wants paying for her time. I do not charge when I look after her but I do not want to be responsible for all day everyday care.

This is immaterial - the law states that a NRP should pay 15% of his income to the PWC. If the NRP chooses to buy anything, that is usually extra.

This is true but it appears that the NRP doesn't want to pay for the extras (ie the childcare he is now being asked to pay) so he needs to stop paying as 'extras' and pay a set amount (at least 15% of his income)

I think the PWC seems to know the system a lot more than the NRP so is asking for him to pay 'extras' rather than a set amount as she knows this will not be counted in the eyes of the law. The NRP needs to chance this so his contribution is reconsidered by the law as your rightly point out he could be made to pay back payment when as far as he is concerned he has been paying.

Well I can't get my head round that.

I understand your point of view and I think it's very good of you to help out mum.

How can the DLA decide if Dad has to pay childcare? Dad already pays more than £45 per week I believe in food etc.

Edit: What do you mean by other benefits?

I'm not up on DLA regulations btw, so I need enlightening.

DLA has nothing to do with the father paying child support at all, the two are totally seperate.

Other benefits are things like council tax benefit, income support, etc which are means tested

It can be tweaked to suit both parents needs.

Thank you so much! I should have googled rather than asked on here and been put through a slew of accusations - but I thought the idea was that everyone gave what advice they could. This is the first time I have been disappointed with some of the replies to a simple question.

My advice is on usually on education and rents.

I would keep dad out of this paying Gran for childcare thing and it is for the duration of the school hols.

I would be extremely curious to know how much Gran wants to charge her daughter.

No problem. It would have taken you ages to find that on google anyway.

I think the PWC needs to look what she gets in her 'pot' and put aside a certain amount to pay her 'mother'.

However you didn't ask if a couple could have a private agreement though or you would have got the answer to that.

You started off by talking about unwanted children and whether the father had to support them and gradually we got more information on what you really wanted.

Well I have to admit Torry does have a point here ( I have thanked you for providing what other benefits means ;) ) but it is difficult writing stuff on the internet - done it myself- and sometimes it comes across the wrong way.

But hopefully everything has died down now and I hope we have helped Mrs pb some of the way.

    :)

I agree with your sentiment here and yes it is hard to express yourself sometimes.

Be assured Mrs pb that I hope it all works out for the best for all concerned including you. :A
