Hello,
I would like an answer to a question. What is the legal position for
child support for an unwanted/unplanned child?
Thanks

Just the same as for a 'wanted' or 'planned' child - both parents have a responsibility to support the child, whether they are living in the same household or not.0 -

Really? Do you know that as a fact or is it an opinion? If a woman makes the decisions about a pregnancy is she not also obliged to take the consequences of her decisions?0 -
It doesn't matter if the father is not in any way involved and didn't want the child, he will always be responsible for child support.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

All the CSA are concerned about is the child, if there is any improper actions then that would be another matter, but when approached about a child by the CSA, you can request a DNA test, if it is proved by DNA then there is no argument, you MUST pay or face the wrath of the horrible institution...!!!
Don't know how you could be "tricked" into having a child, i know accidents happen etc, but unplanned or not, surely it is the responsibility of BOTH people to take precautions, so saying but she told me she was on the pill is not enough, and lets be honest, if you don't want children, you take your own precautions or keep it in your trousers...!!!
I had an ex tell me after splitting that she was pregnant, i congratulated her, and moved on with my life, 9 months later i was contacted by the CSA and underwent the DNA sequence of events, and was proved it was not mine, but i had already had the snip, so i knew it wasn't... I already had 2 as well...!!!
So no sympathy... If you play you pay...!!!0 -

I know it as a fact.
The woman is taking the consequences of her decision, just as the father would also be handling the consequences of his decision.0 -
I am not sure what "improper actions means" but this particular child was found to be badly disabled on the first scan. The couple had professional counselling with the hospital and offered a termination numerous times. One of them wanted a termination the other (woman) said "if the child dies she dies but I cannot kill her" and that he could walk away if he wanted. The child was not expected to survive but did and the mother gets a huge amount from the welfare people including a car. She wants the money paid "under the table" in case it jeopardises what she claims for a disabled child.0

I wouldn't call that an unplanned/unwanted child!
She's wrong though in wanting the money paid in this way. Presuming we are talking DLA then that is not means tested in any way and wouldn't be affected by child support.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

No money that she receives from the DWP will be affected by any child maintenance that will be due. CM is direagrded.
They can come to a private arrangement or the CSA can be involved.0 -
Child maintenance doesn't effect any benefits including disability benefits, she doesn't 'get' a car, she uses the mobility part of her childs DLA to pay rent on a car. As a parent with a disabled child you do not get a huge amount, sadly though there are some people who are jealous when they should be thankful that their child is healthy.0
