The year before we were married we went to four weddings. All had 'Love Divine' and 'The Lord's My Shepherd'.
So definitely not one of those then. We chose 'Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us'
Quite appropriate , as it goes on 'O'er the world's tempestuous sea!'

neverdespairgirl, thanks for reminding me of the missing verse to All Things Bright and Beautiful. Hope 'call me Dave' or Gideon or IDS don't remember it or they'll be reintroducing it!;)0 -
Good hymn choices. You want to have hymns that your guests will know as there's nothing worse than a church ful of people not singing because they don't the hymn. We had:
Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer
Lord of the Dance - after we had said our vows. Nice and jolly.
We also had the children in the choir sing a selection of hymns including Amazing Grace whilst we signed the register. Lovely.0 -

The Lord's my Shepherd, I'll not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Even for His own Name's sake.
Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale,
Yet will I fear none ill;
For Thou art with me; and Thy rod
And staff me comfort still.
My table Thou hast furnished
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.
Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me;
And in God's house forevermore

I'd second the idea of going for something fairly well-known, but also think that "Morning has Broken" and "All things Bright and Beautiful" are children's hymns.
The missing verse in most modern renditions of "All things Bright and Beautiful" is pretty awful, too, and makes me giggle when the hymn's sung without it - it goes something like:
The rich man in his castle
The poor man at the gate
God made them high and lowly
And gave each his estate
The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning,
That brightens up the sky;0 -
I like your final choices OP - a wedding is supposed to be a joyful occasion! My very best wishes for your wedding day, and a long and prosperous marriage with many blessings!0

That's what spoils so many threads that are remotely about religion - the bizarre correlation between having a faith and taking offence at everything.
Can I just say that I did not complain about yout post and made my response on here. I was not offended by it but yes I was hurt.
It isn't remotely about religion though but totally as it's about hymns for a church wedding ie a Christian wedding. Having a faith doesn't mean taking offence at everything and you'll see that others have agreed with me.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Why is this thread 'unbelievable'? The OP asked for suggestions for hymns to be sung at a wedding - a church wedding - therefore the correlation with religion is inescapable.
I didn't see your comment which you say was removed.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We have individual glasses for the 'wine' and the bread is cut into pieces so no hazards there.
Yes, that's what they do in the Methodist Church which we used to attend. We've recently started going to a local CofE church and they do things differently there. For one thing, we have weekly Communion, not just whenever there happens to be a minister available.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

It is pretty unbelievable actually.
The thread is a pretty upbeat one asking for suggestions for music for a wedding but has been hijacked not once but twice by a keyboard warrior intent on attacking someone with no connection to the original post or poster. And not content with posting something vile once, she's repeated it after the abuse team have removed it. Hope the OP has moved on from the thread now. Whilst the run up to a wedding sometimes does get a bit fraught, I can't see the need for gratuitous unpleasantness and to be frank bullying on this particular thread.0
