We had Dear Lord and Father Of Mankind and Lord Of The Dance. Everyone knew them both and the singing was good and loud :)

I think it's a good idea to go with hymns that people know, nothing worse than being at a wedding with hymns no-one knows!

I only wanted two (and resisted my mum's constant plea to have Love Divine!) and we went for Give Me Joy in My Heart and Lord of All Hopefulness, simple but with meaning.

Don't stress too much though, I'm sure you're wedding will be beautiful whatever you go for in the end. Have a lovely day, and a long and happy marriage xxxx

Did anyone use to get played with the chorus "sing it in the valleys, shout it from the mountain tops, wooooo oooooo" lol. I'd imagine all the cool kids like myself shouted to the woooo ooooo when in school lol

We only had one hymn at our blessing ceremony but it was "Shine, Jesus, Shine" as I love the tune! (a pretty uncoventional CofE vicar too)

We had that too at our wedding :D loved it - so cheerful! I was up there doing all the primary school-esque actions up on the altar :rotfl:

We also had 'As the deer pants for the water' which is probably a slightly unusual choice, but I absolutely love it, the words and the melody, it always gives me tears in my eyes.

Good luck with your wedding plans! :D

that hymn you mention is I believe called 'Sing it in the Valleys' - if you google it, it comes up and the second line is shout it from the mountains - it isn't the chorus its the first verse - I think it then becomes the chorus. may depend on the arrangement. I vaguely remember it - from where I dunno. wouldn't have been church..... I was Presbyterian and believe me its too happy for my church then!

    Love divine, all loves excelling?

(Or my brother's choice till vetoed by SIL-to-be - for those in peril on the sea. Just because he liked the tune, silly sod.)

What is silly about it? It is traditional if one of the wedding party happens to be a sailor.

My cousin and his wife had it as one of their wedding hymns.
