Wedding hymn recommendation?

If you've had a problem narrowing it to 3 you could always have the music for others (like Amazing Grace) played when you're signing the register. We did that at DD1's wedding. We had Cwm Rhondda and all the Welsh side of the family sang along anyway!
I have to say that while a pleasant hymn, I don't think I could choose Lord of the Dance for a wedding. It's an Easter hymn. To me it would be like having Away in a Manger in the middle of August.0 -
I have to say, they're both very much children's hymns and I would agree with TQ, not terribly suitable for a wedding. Don't take it personally.
They are typically children's hymns but seeing as many posters have said they only know any hymns because they learned them at Primary school it's no surprise that they're often featured at weddings.0 -
Why primary school? No hymns at Assembly at Secondary schools?
I'd second the idea of going for something fairly well-known, but also think that "Morning has Broken" and "All things Bright and Beautiful" are children's hymns.
The missing verse in most modern renditions of "All things Bright and Beautiful" is pretty awful, too, and makes me giggle when the hymn's sung without it - it goes something like:
The rich man in his castle
The poor man at the gate
God made them high and lowly
And gave each his estate...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Gone for the following:
Channel Of Your Peace
Bind Us Together
Give Me Joy In My Heart
We use to get played lots of different hymns in my catholic secondary school assemblies. Most of the ones in primary were the same like "All things bright" etc.
On another note, when was the last time anyone ever went up to take bread and wine from a church?... Surprised in this country with regulations for anything these days, it's a health hazard zipping hundreds of peoples saliva and from the hands of the person giving the circular breads.

Love your choices, hope you have an amazing day.
we had
all things bright and beautiful (quite traditional beyond primary school in our country and very farming based parish0
Give me joy in my heart (I adore bellowing out the SING HOSANNA!)
Be Thou my Vision (my all time favourite hymn and I like the words)0 -
Of the hymns mentioned here, the only ones I know are children's hymns. Which is why I had them at my wedding0

A friend chose 'Amazing Grace ' but for their funeral. It's a very difficult song to sing and most people only know the first verse.
A chap we know had wanted 'Onward Christian Soldiers' for his wedding but his wife-to-be had vetoed it! He did have it for his funeral though!0 -

Every Sunday morning at our parish church, St Laurence and All Saints, Eastwood, Essex, and none of us have died from it yet.
One of my favourite all-time hymns is 'Lord, for the years'. And also 'Dear Lord and Father of mankind' sung to the tune 'Repton' (first sung to this tune in the school chapel of Repton school where my step-granddaughter goes).
When my late daughter got married both the mums (myself and her MIL to be) were asked to choose a hymn. I chose 'Lord of all hopefulness' and his mum chose 'Love divine' which is a really traditional wedding hymn. The 3rd hymn was 'Jerusalem' and everyone filled their lungs and sang their hearts out.
I remember 'When a knight won his spurs' from her primary school.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -

Lovely hymns, well chosen.
We have individual glasses for the 'wine' and the bread is cut into pieces so no hazards there.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
