Wedding hymn recommendation?

Think I may go for the following order:
Amazing Grace (probably be quietish with this one)
Bind Us Together (I'd imagine everyone knows most the lyrics off by heart)
Give Me Joy In My Heart (Same as above, so these 2 hymns should be sang well).0 -

Jerusalem? That's always rousing and everyone knows the tune.
Sounds like I'm right as Jerusalem is not something that here in Scotland would ever be deemed appropriate! :eek:danielsonstar wrote: »Think I may go for the following order:

We get married in 7 weeks and we are having
Love Devine
One more step along the world I go (loved the words)
Guide me, O thou great redeemer (welsh family and family song)
They are completely personal to us though. Find something you really love.
Good luck0 -
Found it!
Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace!!! I cant explain how much I enjoyed hearing this in school assemblies lol.0 -
Gahh now im stuck which 3 to pick, think ill play them on the 5.1 in hall choir mode to imagine which I prefer. All are meaningful which is key. I might have to scrap Amazing Grace now, ouch!0

Unless you've paid for the choir I'd go with something most people know! Nothing worse than the tune playing and just hearing one or two voices whilst the rest of the congregation go lahh, lahh, laa.
I had Love Divine at my son's baptism and despite it being a commonly used ones at weddings, large numbers of people told me they'd never heard of it before. I also associate All things Bright And Beautiful with children's Assemblys but it's commonly used at weddings I've been too and most people know the words. Jerusalem is probably another well known hymn as it features in practically every wedding scene in films.

Cant really have morning has broken since it's an afternoon wedding.
Any others spring to mind, still searching google and youtube for help.
I quite like Amazing Grace and How great thou art.
Ohh and I want 3 hyms, i was asked if I wanted 3 I said yeah, I do hope to god i dont sweat buckets on the day!
I am sorry but I find 'How great thou art a dirge' - it has been sung at the last five or six funerals I have attended including my dads. I cant sing it and cant hear it without crying. good job I am not coming to the wedding isn't it? lol.
on a lighter note, Amazing Grace was sung at my three grandkids christening and the youngest stood up and thanked everyone! Her name is Grace! she really thought it was sung especially for her!0 -

And what's wrong with having hymns from children's assemblies? You're doing it again! You're just insinuating that those choices are juvenile. Many people's weddings guests haven't stepped foot inside a church in their lives, so having something that they remember from school and can sing along to is far more inclusive than some worthy dirge that no one apart from the pope has ever heard of.
I certainly wasn't intending to be smug.
The hymns are very important and should be about the couple and the hopes for the marriage. Sadly yes some people may not know those chosen but the ones mentioned aren't difficult ones and easily picked up. I do think that you have to be very careful if picking childrens' hymns
No idea about the pope though.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

We only had one hymn at our blessing ceremony but it was "Shine, Jesus, Shine" as I love the tune! (a pretty uncoventional CofE vicar too)

I LOVED that song in primary school - I'm not particularly religious now but I still love it (I'm now 33 )
I think unless you come from a pretty religious family, the only songs people are going to recognise are the ones from primary school - I have been to a few church weddings and they have all included as at least one of the hymns the "old school" favourites Morning has Broken and Give me Joy in My Heart.
It could come to a toss up between what you think people may actually know how to sing along to or a nice but unfamiliar hymn...
