Hi!
The last few pages of this thread is full of positive outcomes so I feel like like I’m bringing down the tone but I want to get this down.
21/08/2019 Agreement in principle from NatWest
28/08/2019 Offer accepted, sale agreed.
31/08/2019 Full application submitted online to NatWest direct (no broker). Awaiting digidocs log in.
04/09/2019 email received with reference number saying documents will be received in the post within 5 days. I called them and explained it should be a paperless application and asked for digidocs to be created so I can submit supporting docs.
06/09/2019 email rec’d to register for Digidocs.
08/09/2019 all documents submitted by myself and joint applicant but at the bottom of the screen there is a message to call NatWest regarding ‘documents requested per AIP’
09/09/2019. I called and spoke to an agent at NatWest who confirmed all requested docs had been received and he took payment for the survey.
12/09/2019 valunation inform me they have been trying to contact the vendor since the 10th and despite leaving voicemails and emails have not heard back so will be placing it on hold.
I call the estate agent who tells me the vendor is away on holiday without telephone signal or internet.
I later drive passed the house and notice the lights on and bedroom window open!
I go into damage limitation mode and look at other properties for sale, come across an house that suits us so much more and booked a bring!
16/09/2019 Offer accepted and sale agreed on new house! We love it! So much more than the first :j
Notify NatWest and solicitors of the change in property.
17/09/2019 Receive a text from NatWest asking me to contact them. On doing so I speak to an agent who tells me no supporting documents have been received. I tell her someone confirmed on the 9th that they had indeed been received but she refuses to accept we have sent them and tells me if I don’t submit them all again they cannot progress the application.
I get off the phone and find an automated email dated 8th from NatWest thanking me for submitting the docs.
I call back right away and this time another agent can see in the system that they have in fact been received but not scanned across to the underwriters. He said he will get onto the next day and arrange for the new survey to be instructed.
19/09/2019 I call for an update on the survey instruction/ docs and the agent tells me the docs have still not been scanned across but that she would get onto it first thing the next day and it should take about an hour.
20/09/2019 At midday I call to check the docs have been scanned. And would you believe they hadn't!! This time the agent is again adamant that no docs has been received by NatWest so I inform her of the above and ask to hold whilst she finds out what the hell is going on! She comes back to me and says there was an option to ‘save and send’ in digidocs and I haven’t clicked it. She tells me to log on and so that and they will receive them.
Well, would you believe when I log on digidocs there is no such option to ‘save and send’
By now I am VERY annoyed and call them back. At this point I figured I would be better off going with another lender. This agent I spoke to could see the docs and assured me he would get the docs scanned in within the hour.
I call back three hours later and they had been scanned across. HURRAH! :T
23/09/2019 I log into the mortgage tracker and the underwriters have confirmed receipt of the docs and instructed the surveyor.
25/09/2019 I call NatWest to see if and when the survey has been booked in for. They have a note on the system saying “incorrect/ invalid vendor contact information” turns out they had the new property but old estate agent details!!! Who knows when I would have found out if I hadn’t rung them!!! They will pass on the correct contact info tomorrow.
I am so fed up!! We are almost 4 weeks into the application and little to no progress has been made!!
Am I suppose to ring them daily??? I hate the idea of minor-managing but I’m losing so much faith in them. Granted we changed the property but that probably happens often!
Our chain is complete with just the three parties (FTB/us/no vendor chain) so we are in a position to move quickly.... it seems NatWest just have other ideas!0 -
Hello everyone! Long time MSE subscriber (and the information on the forums has been invaluable over the years), but first time I’ve felt the need to post because, honestly, this whole waiting for a mortgage decision is stressing me out far more than I ever thought it would or even could.
Broad timeline of where I’m up to so far…
25/8 - Apply with LandC for a decision in principal
27/8 - Armed with the decision in principal, begin searching for a property
11/9 - Find a property I would like to purchase, and get back to LandC to get something more concrete so I can make an offer
16/9 - Having not heard anything back from LandC, approach another broker and get something more concrete within the day
17/9 - Make an initial offer and, indeed, a couple more, before offer is accepted
18/9 - Mortgage broker apply for the actual mortgage (NatWest)
25/9 - Hear back from the mortgage provider than mortgage is accepted subject to valuation - with the valuation viewing booked (actually as of a couple of days ago) for tomorrow.
My concern at this point - I’m looking to buy a leasehold flat and, though the only recent purchase in the block (approx 3 years ago) was from the people I’m buying from, they paid over 6 grand more than I’ve offered. All good at least from a valuation POV.
But, all sales before that - going back between 3 and 7 years - have been at least 3 grand (and up to 7 grand) less than I’m offering.
So, I’m at the point of waiting for a valuation, knowing that if going on previous sales of similar properties, I’m overpaying. Of course, that doesn’t mean this property isn’t worth what I’m offering to me personally, but I’m dreading the mortgage being derailed due to this valuation survey.
I’m sure it’ll all work out all right - and even in the case of a slight devaluation, I’ve got options. But I’m stressing out over a process I really have no control over! Thanks for letting me decompress about this a little!0 -
Thought I'd add my experience so far:
22/8 - Viewed property
23/8 - Put in offer 1k below asking price
23/8 - Offer accepted
24/8 - Instructed conveyancer
27/8 - Booked mortgage application
30/8 - Mortgage application
03/9 - Title info etc received from sellers
10/9 - Initial mortgage offer and arrange valuation
18/9 - Survey & valuation - Price slightly lower than asking price
23/9 - Renegotiated price
23/9 - Informed seller has a house in line
24/9 - Mortgage accepted, documents in post
25/9 - Searches came back and most enquiries received
*Waiting*
I just need to wait for the chain, sign the paperwork, and sort out insurance!
Good luck to those who are also going through this manic task.0 -
Posted a separate thread as didn't realise this thread existed.
Timeline so far:
2/9 got DIP from L&C.
7/9 viewed a lot of houses.
9/9 after failing to get hold of L&C all week went directly to YBS and got an AIP with them. Also submitted under asking offer on house. 17/9 offer finally accepted.
18/9 submitted full mortgage application.
19/9 underwriter came back and asked for three month payslips and one month bank statement.
23/9 underwriters query a standing order for rent
24/9 underwriters confirm they have everything pending valuation survey - 27/9 TOMORROW
Nervously waiting for valuation survey and sign off on mortgage. Surely at this point if there was anything awful they would have rejected us (not that we have, just obvious nerves).0 -
Timeline so far:
22/8/19 - DIP receieved
22/8/19 - Mortgage application sent
27/8/19 - Conveyancer allocated
27/08/19 - Valuation booked
Does anyone know roughly how long they come back with a deicison? Myself and partner are FTB and this has been such a stressful experience for me as I worry so much over everything.
Also, what are people's reviews on using Digital Mortgages by Atom? Seen so many mixed reviews so it's hard to know what to think.
So far, so good with us. Just wish the decision was instantaneous!!
FINALLY got our Mortgage application accepted on 12th September whilst we were on holiday:j:j
Got a HomeBuyer survey conducted yesterday as our property showed on the valuation it was built approx. 1945 so want to ensure there are no underlying problems. Get the report back tomorrow so finger's crossed there are no horror stories on it.
In the interim I still havent received a completion date which I am very impateintly waiting on, according to Solicitor they are still waiting on the deeds arriving from the vendor's solicitor.
Can anyone advise how long this process normally takes?0 -
I'll join the fun here... so here we go... p.s application via broker.
19th August to 23rd August - wasted time applying to LBS only to realise that they don't consider loans beyond 300k at 5%.
Moving on - change of Broker (for a much better one) and he did thorough research and here we are currently.... (P.s 10% deposit now).
24/09 - Got DIP from SN.
24/09 - Application submitted.
24/09 - SN instructed valuation
25/09 - Minimum document requirements fulfilled. (payslips, bank statements, proof of deposit etc.).
26/09 - Valuation date confirmed as the 30th September, valuation result expected to be confirmed on 2nd October.
26/09 - Realised conveyancer was not on lender panel, broker has resolved this.
Currently - > Underwriter is assessing the application whilst we await the valuation, broker reckons that by the 2nd of October, the underwriter will have done his review, and assuming the valuation goes well hopefully an offer is made..... the nerves are killing me slowly!0 -
Thought i would join in and see if anyone is in the same boat.
14/09 viewed house
16/09 offered/accepted
18/09 AIP requested Skipton (deferred)
23/09 AIP approved
25/09 Full application sent
Now just waiting. Heard Skipton take a while, can see they're running at about 2 weeks from the intermediary site. End of next week would be lovely but unrealistic!
Went through this process just a month ago on a different property and sale collapsed due to misinformation on the house and us pulling out. Offer was received from Nationwide for more than the new house costs, so trying to be positive that we'll get another positive result this time. I hate the waiting!0 -

1. Could you not have gone through nationwide again, on the new property, especially if the mortgage was approved by them previously?
2. I am in the queue with skipton too, my application was submitted the day before yours, and the valuation was pretty much instructed on the same day. The valuation is taking place on Monday, and skipton expect a turnaround time of 48 hours from their valuers, therefore my broker reckons that we will have a final "decision" on the 2nd October, as the underwriting will most likely have been done by then, and it'll all be subject to the valuation most probably.
Hope that helps, and probably mean you'll also be working on a similar time frame as me given you've only applied the day after...0 -
So here’s my time scales to date.
12/08/19 DIP
22/08/19 offer accepted on property
28/08/19 full application (MA on holiday so had to wait)
02/09/19 proof of savings/deposit requested (named savings account as internet statement doesn’t show this) letter from bank was sufficient
05/09/19 Query on deposit ( I moved some money from 1 account to another)
16/09/19 valuation carried out
18/09/19 confirmation that valuation ok
20/09/19 MA spoke to lender asking when offer would come through and they were behind with timings as very busy, he chased them again 23rd and 26th.
27/09/19 mortgage offer came.
I’m so happy, took a while but got there in the end!0
