Enjoyed reading this thread, so much so I decided to add my few hundred thousand pennies worth in....
02/01/2014 – My house on the market.
03/01/14 – Discussions with my broker, received Decision in Principle from the Halifax (Way more than I actually need).
06/01/2014 – Offer accepted for our current house.
10/01/2014- Offer accepted on house we love.
14/01/2014 –Full application of mortgage submitted to Halifax with supporting documents attached.
15/01/2014 – Received email from broker telling me that Halifax need to manually key in the application as their system is down, could take around 4 working days to complete.
I currently have a mortgage with Halifax that I am porting across and I am only applying for 23% additional borrowing on what I already have with them.
  • Initial application with First Direct over telephone - 13/12/2013
Supporting evidence submitted to FD by post - 16/12/2013
    Offer accepted - 17/12/2013
    Solicitor appointed - 20/12/2013
    Sale particulars received - 21/12/2013
Spoke with FD on the phone and received confirmation application has moved to valuation stage - 24/12/2013

So now waiting to hear from bank's surveyors to arrange valuation. We're having our own structural survey done by a different surveyor who's been recommended to us - should we wait until after the bank's has been done? Or arrange them concurrently

Spoke to FD today - valuation came back fine & they've received our signed offer so all done on the lender's part until exchange!
Our structural survey will hopefully happen this week. &then we can get searches etc done by our solicitor.

Hi everyone, I got my offer from the Halifax on 23rd December, searches are complete, deed has been signed and phoned them up regarding an incentive query and they said the system has gone back to pre-offer. She said she could see the offer had been issued and it just needed to go back to the underwriter to confirm as the system had "glitched" has anyone heard of this before? No new searches have been made on my credit files and no changes apart from using less credit % than when we got our offer. My solicitor, broker and I haven't had a letter to say offer withdrawn so it just sounds like for formality? I hope so as we've picked the kitchen and everything now and due to exchange contracts next week

Yes, I had the same thing, but on the same day they offered, we called to confirm something and where told it had gone back to the underwriters... We got our broker to chase it the next day, we then had another unrecorded enquiry on the 4th, then another on the 7th of January, we then received two more offers, one said amended, the other was identical, the only difference I could find was there was a fax number missing on the front page of the first offer ?

Searches are now underway, hopefully it will be ok now, it does nothing to help with the nerves though.
  • Can I join and keep this going... I’ve loved reading and it has helped me stay sane. I’m a FTB and only a few days in eek!

11/01/2014 – first viewing and fell in love
12/01/2014 – second viewing fell more in love
13/01/2014 – full application done in Halifax branch. We took all our documentation with us so it was all approved there and then.
    13/01/14 – paid for valuation
    13/01/14 – instructed solicitor
14/01/14 – 16/01/14 – anxiously checking email/phone/post for news of when valuation will be.

The current owners are moving into rented so there is no chain.

I’ll keep you posted. Exciting times but I’m still so nervous/anxious.

Loving all the excitement in this thread so thought I would join in :)

We are going to be renting our current house out in order to buy our forever home.

05/01/2014 - Saw house on Rightmove and fell in love.
11/01/2014 - Viewed house and loved it even more (only needed the one viewing really).
11/01/2014 - First offer made on house.
    15/01/2014 - First offer rejected.
    15/01/2014 - Second offer accepted.
15/01/2014 - Got AIP from Natwest for £7k more than needed.
    16/01/2014 - Instructed Solicitors.

Now sitting tight waiting for IFA to submit the full application...gonna be a long weekend me thinks.
  • Hi, clareFTB how much deposit will you put down, your process looks very fast.

Hi There, We put down 10% well 11% to be exact. We did not go through AIP stage as we found our house and had an offer accepted before we'd even spoken to the bank. I've heard so many horror stories of AIP's being approved and then full apllication rejcted so we just went straight into full application. (As an FTB you're told that estate agents will take you more seriously with an AIP/DIP... but in my experience we have never even been asked about it, just told the truth about our sittuation and deposit)

It does seem quick and i'm still very nervous that it will all collapse. We are waiting on our valuation apparantly this is taking up to 2 weeks at the moment for Halifax and Colleys. which would still be a quick turnaround, time is going by veryyyyy slowly though as we wait.

    Clare
  • Ooh bless you, hope it goes all well for you, my heart is with you
