Well from doing lots of reading (mainly on the MSE forums) it seems to be: why book in a valuation (which Nationwide pay for) without already looking at the application and knowing whether or not you're going to accept them? They wouldn't waste the money unless they were sure. So I think the underwriting is done before that, credit check is at DIP stage and then the underwriters go over it once the full application is sent in, before the valuation. Then if the valuation is fine they finalise the offer and put it altogether before sending the final offer out.

That's the way it's seemed to me so far....correct me if I'm wrong though.

I can't vouch for the process in Scotland in terms of when it goes to underwriters, but I received a mortgage offer from Nationwide 2 weeks ago and my application went like this:

    11/11/15 DIP
07/01/16 Full Application submitted online and documents emailed. Valuation booked that day and text received.
13/01/16 Valution done and text to say satisfactory
Then the requests for various other documents came. Additional payslips, copy of contract etc.
20/01/16 Offer issued but I'm an idiot and forgot to include middle names in application.
21/01/16 proof of middle name taken into branch
    22/01/16 revised offer issued.

I found the process quick considering the additional requests. I found if you were quick emailing the documents they would be looked at within 24 hours. You just have to be proactive in contacting them and have everything ready to send to them just in case.

Our broker emailed us earlier today. Nationwide have amended the incorrect detail however the valuation (home report) needs assessed again for compliance. Another three working days! Argh! I know there won't be a problem, but time is ticking. I was going to treat myself to letting the council know I was moving today too, but now I'll have to wait a bit longer. I find the weekends the worst part in the whole process...

    Room for another one?
We have submitted our application to Accord, via a broker on 1st Feb.
Took all the paperwork and documents to the Solicitor on 5th by hand and watched over them as they photocopied things.
After all, it took them 3 days to get the forms to us, then they turned up in duplicate, filled out by two separate solicitors and only one of them had the correct details! (like our names spelled correctly and the right postcode for the house we are trying to buy).
Anyway, I know where the solicitors are now and where to park for free, I can't be bothered with waiting on them to send things if I can pick them up in 20 minutes. I am sure it is not the Royal Mail's fault, everyone else seems to be able to post things and get them there the next day.

Hoping for it all to be over before April begins.

You really have to keep a sense of humour about the whole thing don't you?
Otherwise it might become a little stressful.:rotfl:

    Hey everyone!!

I hope there's room for another one? I've been reading this thread for a while and thought I'd join the wait please!

Were FTB and have applied for a mortgage with Natwest, were buying a new build property and have gone via a broker. Our valuation took place on the 01/02/16 and we've been waiting anxiously ever since. I've never refreshed my emails/waited for the phone to ring so much in my life! Here's hoping to some good news for us all this week.

I'm hoping today the underwriter confirms he's received the final document he needed (which was taken into branch a week ago!) and can confirm the offer! Once that's done we can let the landlord know and maybe even start packing!
  • Possibly the longest timeline ever... but here it is....

20/11 - Viewed a new build house and reserved
02/12 - Met with MA and completed all forms
04/12 - MA made mortgage application with Leeds, they didn't have my solicitor on their panel, so they sent forms to them to complete. Was approved in principal.
13/12 - Found out that Leeds declined solicitor as they're a sole business.
14/12 - Found new solicitor and full application was made to Leeds that afternoon.
16/12 - Mortgage & transfer fee are pending transaction in my bank. MA tells me valuation has been instructed.
24/12 - MA rang me and said Leeds were unable to proceed due to reaching the maximum lend on that development... :( MA then told me there were no other lenders he could go to. Spoke with housing developer who gave me new MA details, called and gave them my details.

Throughout January they have been asking for documents and things and new application went into Melton Mowbray on 1/2, should hear back today!!
Getting bored of it all now... :(

Fingers crossed you hear something. Keep us posted as I think you're about a day ahead of us haha! I haven't heard anything since Friday when NW sent a text saying they had received out valuation (home report) and need to review it! Hopefully the requests for extra documents don't start arriving....
