Did they ask you for more documents after your initial application? Every time you send in new documents you get put to the back of the queue and it can take up to 5 working days for the 'processors' to review the documents.

Or they might just be waiting for the vaulation report to come back before issuing a mortgage offer.

They haven't asked for any additional documents. I actually preempted them and took a whole load of things they might possibly ask for, which are all with my broker. Managed to speak with him this afternoon and he says he's got no word from them. Doesn't even know if valuations has been instructed yet. He says he thinks the application is with the underwriters and that's all I got. If I don't hear anything back by Monday, I may start chasing Halifax myself.

If you do decide to chase, make sure you have the mortgage application ref. I did decide to chase, having not got hold of broker. Very nice people on phone couldn't talk to me without it. Silly me. Oh and be warned I spent rather a long time on hold...

Hi everyone we are on this journey now :) we have been told our application has been "underwritten" they just need another scan of a passport.

Does this mean we are approved now? that we can relax a bit.

Spoke to broker. We have been referred to a senior underwriter because I went from sole trader self employed to a director of a company (ltd by guarantee) last year. Company only has a years trading and they have questions over the viability of my business (how rude! :) ). Business receives grants as well as generating income from services. So far apparently this breaks people's brains. Ah well at least I know where we're at. I'm not even the higher earner.

Now less confident about chance of success with mortgage. It will all depend on whether the narrative we can build re my employment (the fact I have doubled my income in the last year surely suggests we can run a business, no?) and the sustainability thereof is convincing for them.

My mortgage application with Halifax has now been escalated to the Risk Assessment department. Has anyone had their application go to the Risk Assessment department? How long does it usually take for a decision?

It's been well over a month since the full application was made now, very frustrating.

Oo maybe that's what we are going through? our broker said 'referred to senior underwriter' but maybe that means risk assessment.

Our timescales are similar. Broker application submitted 2 Feb.

Apparently they haven't instructed a valuation just in case it doesn't get passed by underwriters.

They still have taken the money though. Thanks. Thanks for that Halifax. Your concerns over the viability of my business whilst holding on to my damn money are not galling at all....Perhaps I should take the same tack and hold onto people's money without actually delivering the service...

:) I've lost track when my application was submitted but it was around mid Jan. I just spoke to them again and now the person I spoke to said it's been selected for a random audit. Not sure if thats the same thing.

For what its worth, they took my valuation fee pretty much the day after the full application was submitted but the valuation wasnt booked in until exactly a week later.

My broker got back to me again after my call with him this afternoon. He's obviously done some chasing up after speaking with me. He's asking me to come back to his office with my passport as my visa needs to be re-scanned. I am guessin Halifax has asked for that. His email says my case can't proceed without the said Visa. I am going in tomorrow to get that done as they are open on Saturday. Hopefully there's an end in sight.
