Waiting to hear from Nationwide. Applied via broker as I am a contractor.
    29/10/14 FMA
30/10/14 Text confirming survey scheduled on 03/11/14
    03/11/14 Survey
05/11/14 Text telling me survey was ok

While waiting for the offer I have found out that NW needs more paperwork for my wife's employment situation. Trying to sort this out with them via the broker, but the wait is killing me. I thought that they have verified everything before scheduling the valuation, but I was wrong.

07/11/14 Extra information provided to NW, apparently it goes back in the queue, so have to wait another 2 days. Damn.
  • I’m a first time buyer with a gifted deposit, asking to borrow just over 3x my salary. I do have a bit of credit card debt which I recently consolidated into one loan in order to pay it off in a more manageable way, so I suppose that is my biggest concern, but I’ve never had any late payments.

Early Oct – DIP from Nationwide based on a flat I was interested in. Later changed my mind due to the area and continued looking.
29th Oct – viewed a flat I really liked, and I think a bit of a bargain as sellers want to move quickly
31st Oct – called EA a couple of times and my offer was accepted. Gave NW details of service charge on flat and they knocked an excessive amount of money off what they were willing to lend me making it unaffordable
    1st Nov – Panicked
2nd Nov – Spoke to mortgage broker who advised of more problems I’d face due to living abroad a couple of years ago.
    3rd Nov – Panicked again
4th Nov – Submitted full application to Woolwich through broker
5th Nov – EA contact me to say lender’s valuation was booked for Friday!
6th Nov – Credit checked, tracker says application is being reviewed by underwriter, but the valuation instructed box isn’t ticked.
7th Nov – Valuation was due to take place today but I’ve heard nothing yet… money seems to have been taken from my account.

Waiting as patiently as I possibly can, with everything crossed. Dying to get out of my slug-infested hovel…!
  • 8th Nov - Broker confirmed valuation took place yesterday and lender "approved" it at 4am this morning. Does that mean the valuation is ok and it's just me they're considering now? Was told I'd receive a message with details on viewing the report but this hasn't arrived. Broker also told me I'd get an update next Thursday.... Thursday?! Why so long after the valuation?

    25-10-2014 Full application
    31-10-2014 Valuation done

Nail biting & waiting game now, no text to say Valuation results yet.

Got a text from NW this morning around 8.30 to say that mortgage offer is issued. I got 3 text messages together to say Valuation is done, Valuation is accepted & offer is made.
Thanks for everyone for your kind guidance/info. All the very best for everyone who are waiting for the decision.

It's called "under promise and over deliver."

If the lender says it can take three working days to do something, you tell the client that. If the lender then does it in one day, or two, you feel the service has been better, as it's been quicker.

If the broker told you one day and it ended up being two, you would feel the service was worse than you'd been promised and the broker had let you down.

Strange thing is that still I cannot see a record in my credit file, but my partner’s check has been done at DIP stage. Any comment?
