    Hello! :hello:

    FTB.

2nd August - viewed house and put in an offer (£5k under asking price)
4th August - DIP with RBS approved; increased our offer to the asking price
7th August - offer accepted; instructed our solicitors

The bank initially told us that the next available appointment to do our application would be 20th August  but they've now said they might be able to get us in on 12th August - we'll find out tomorrow, so fingers crossed! The vendor has no chain, and neither do we as we're currently renting - so we're hoping that the application, valuation etc. all goes smoothly :)

I'm a longstanding RBS customer, so they don't really need to see any paperwork for me, but they'll need DH's bank statements, payslips etc. The thing I'm worrying about now is that my husband and I don't have a joint account (just haven't got round to it yet), so we tend to end up sending bits of cash to and fro during the month so that everything is kept ticking over (it always balances out at the end of the month). We're not in any debt, but I just worry that the bank will think this is odd :o I hope I'm worrying about nothing! Has anyone else been in our position (i.e. mortgage app with separate bank accounts)?

  • Hi all guess Ill join,

    were first time buyers :)

29/07: second viewing off flat, both love it.
30/07: first offer refused , offered asking and it was accepted.
    31/07: DIP from nationwide
    05/08: Full application with nationwide
    05/08 : solicitor instructed
07/08: call from nationwide to confirm how long fianc!e been with current employer as it was showing as unknown on application (??) he been with same employer since leaving school 8 years ago so no problems there :)

Everything has moved so quickly !!

Also, does anybody have any experience with nationwide applications ?? as think me worrying about mortgages is starting to annoy everyone including other half :

    thank you !

    Hi Bahamutzz,

Thanks for your response! I hope your application was actually submitted and it progresses swiftly once the declaration is in. Even I thought of going via a Broker initially but once I spoke with Halifax MA directly, the process didn't seem all that difficult. Plus I saved about £300 by going direct.

Thanks! :) I hope so too, I think the main reason we didn't go direct was because with both myself and my wife working full time it was nice (in theory) that someone could look over the application and sort out any problems that may arise.

We are going with Santander for our mortgage and there have been some right horror stories on here about them. However on paper they looked great. Free valuation, £250 cashback upon completion and one of the lower rates we can get.

Another thing I am a little worried about is that they use the electoral roll for some searches on us. My wife is Colombian (Non-EU/Commonwealth) so is not eligable to register to vote, not quite sure how big of an impact this will make on our application but she has indefinite leave to remain so hopefully everything will go smoothly.

Don't worry to much about this me and my wife were in exactly same position. She is from Brazil so not an EU national but recently was granted ILR, what we did was to sign up to all 3 credit reference agencies earlier on this year and put a "notice of correction" on her file under the electoral roll bit explaining why she is not on the electoral roll but other official proof of address's are available.

We still have not had our mortgage offer but that is due to other reasons (mainly natwest being plebs).

Don't worry to much although maybe worthwhile adding notices of correction on her credit files. We used the free 28 day trial on all of them to do this. Did not cost us a penny. We also used a specialist broker to help find a mortgage deal even without ILR at the date of application.

Hope all goes well for you.

ok 6 weeks in now and for the last 3 weeks Natwest have asked the broker/me for no less than 5 copies of each ID which each time they keep refusing as illegible. This is after providing photo perfect laser printed copies of everything they asked for and sending them direct to their processing department. Now after 3 weeks of fannying around they have told my broker to tell me to go into my local branch and get them to authorise it and copy it then fax it direct to them. The copies they have now faxed are wayyyyyy worse than anything i have sent them. We went through valuation 3 weeks ago now and this is still going on. With this combined with the fact my acting solicitor got intervened by SRA and shut down and only just reclaiming my files back from the SRA I'm so ready to give up. The second problem we faced yesterday in going to the branch is the fact my wife's surname is abbreviated on things like council tax demands and all utility bills (it is a double barrel surname from brazil and incorporates her family name with my surname) as a result they were not accepting anything as proof of her address, absolutely ridiculous. How can we dictate what the bank, utility companies and so so do with how our names are printed on an address. Any excitement we potentially had has now all but evaporated and i have got to the point i will be just as happy if they decline the mortgage just so i know where i stand and there is no more waiting around or pouring money into solicitors fees (for the second time). Natwest have been a total nightmare for me to deal with and this is going through a broker. It has got so bad the Broker has had his relationship manager on the phone threatening Natwest to no avail. Something in their scanning process is seriously floored

Spoke to broker today and after speaking to Natwest he thinks we should have a final yes no within the next few working hours. On other news our new solicitors received our old file from the solicitor that was intervened and confirmed he had done no work, so now we have to start from scratch. (min 6 weeks) we are on a uber tight timescale because in 6 weeks my contract ends and my wife changes jobs so I'm worried about any potential mortgage we have being pulled on a day before completion if they do anymore checks:( Talk about stressful

Haha called Natwest they said it should be done by end of today, asked what time call centre closes they said 5 but under-writers work on after this. So basically now I wont know anything till Monday morning even though my broker said DEFO today. Not sure why I even hired broker at the moment seeing as though I am doing all the chasing :/ Needs must and all that

Half way through my mortgage application today and got cut off! So annoyed. Next appointment would be in 3 weeks, having to go through a broker now to speed things up. Not happy.
Because of this I've had a couple of checks on my credit score this week, will it affect my new application?
    Wednesday afternoon now.

I'm doing SO with Leeds BS. The bank want proof that I essentially can't provide and the decision has gone back to the underwriter. Feel quite negative about the whole thing now, but received my valuation report today.
  • I this sounds exactly the same as my application process. They need my partners p45 we dont have it. Gad valuation report back and its come back that mortgage valued it less than developer. Feel like its a lost cause now... :(
