How is your pet coping with the lovely weather

My lovely cat is shedding hair more than usual (i presume to keep cool) and generally lazing about under the garden chair or under the trees in the shade.0

My dogs have cool pads/coats, damp towels to lie on, we are keeping the house cool by opening windows in the early morning or evening only, blinds have been down for days 24/7, lots of water, frozen veggie smoothies (whizzed up frozen cauli, broccoli, peas & carrots with goats milk), walks early morning/late evening and we are doing OK.
They like lying on the cold laminate floor or under the tree outside to cool off.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
My two dogs are wiped out by this heatwave.
The older one, Lucy, is 10 and doesn't want to move so I have to take her out for walks early and late.
The younger one, Jack, is 5 and being black, gets absolutely boiling hot. You could burn your hand on his fur.
I've been spraying them a couple of times a day with the hosepipe and making sure they have cool fresh drinking water. Also letting them lie in front of a fan.
I know how they must feel. None of us would fancy having to wear a thick fur coat that can't be taken off when it's over 30C outside!0 -
My cats are lying in my room under my bed as its cooler.
Had the blinds closed to try and keep the flat cool.
I put ice cubes in their water bowl to make it cooler, they were unimpressed lol.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
my pet rats are snacking on ice cubes with peas and carrots in, with water baths to cool off. A damp towel over half the cage to try and keep it cool.....and sleeping lots and lots. I feel sorry for them they hate the heat more than I do and thats saying something.0

Well the good news (for the humans) is that they are not all trying to sleep on the bed with us. It can get a bit much when 4 cats demand most of the bed.
Luckily our bungalow keeps quite cool and we have laminate and tiles in several rooms, so there is a lot of lying on the floors. Or lying stretched out rather than in tight cat balls.
I don't think they drink enough, so they get water added to the wet food every day at the minute as well.
It amazes me how some cats just cope. I was at the cat sanctuary I volunteer at on one of the really hot days recently and even though it was really hot, some of the cats joined me in the full sun and wanted to be cuddled or played with.0 -
My cat is very restless in the heat and a bit more grouchy than usual (he's normally very placid and affectionate). He just keeps throwing himself on the floor and he is malting again. We thought he was off his food too at the weekend, but now think he was just eating next door as they had their door open plus he is good at inviting himself to barbeques!0

That's a good idea about the damp towel, I'm going to put one down for my dogs.:T0

Little Sod has decided he is pretty much living in the porch at the moment. Its cool and the floor is tiled so ideal for scooting gravy ice cubes around on! I do have to keep mopping though as the smell gets a bit much!
He is only getting one walk a day at the moment, when it has cooled down. He is enjoying going to the lakes and rivers to play, but his recall is becoming non-existent!
I am quite lucky as the walls of the house are stone and ridiculously thick so it stays pretty cool inside.0 -

This reminded me of my friends dog who went swimming in a lake the other day and started to swim after a canoeist thinking that his oar was a big stick! Thankfully the canoeist was someone they vaguely know and didn't seem to bemused at being hunted down by a lab0
