How is your pet coping with the lovely weather

My dog is a very hot boy - I have seen him steaming like a racehorse in winter after a run (lurcher). He loves to swim so during this wonderful weather we have been taking him to the river for his walks so he can cool off. Yesterday we took him somewhere different. He had his swim and we set off back to the car, but OH didn't put his lead on as we walked through fields covered with ... MANURE ... Yes folk, he rolled  Needless to say we sent him back into the river to wash off, but he was absolutely covered. Lovely.

My kitties are refusing to eat, I'm replacing their water every hour and hoping they will be ok. I've kept the fan on and the curtains closed to cool the house down a bit and that seems to help.

Dylan keeps trying to swim in the water bowl, I might fill the sink for him later (he loves getting in the bath with you!)

Change water regularly and if they pant profusely a watering can with tap water and sprinkle them down, which they enjoy and the panting stops and they are much happier for a couple of hours.
    Be happy...;)

The pocket rocket (kitten) is loving all the opportunities to go outside, its really boosted her confidence, so much so that she was challenging our neighbours lab to a staring contest, which she of course won :)

My maine coon, not so much. He keeps trying to find cooler areas inside the house, and only goes out in the evening when it gets late.
  • Maisie's hating it .... she's far too hot - trying to get decent walks is a nightmare .....

Cats don't seem bothered by it - doing their usual stuff of lying outside not doing a lot!

My garden is far too hot for most of my cats and dogs, they are staying inside as much as possible and drinking lots of water.

I do sprinkle some water over my male dog's coat once a day as he has quite thick fur.

The only exception is my Jack Russell terrier who still seems to be quite lively despite the heat. :rotfl:

My dog loves the sun, so I have to make her come indoors to cool off. I'm walking her a few hours earlier and in places with streams, rivers or lakes so she can have a drink and a splash around. Yesterday, she had a "beef lolly", a chunk of frozen beef - she loved it :) She might get another one today ;)
  • Our rats are spending more time than ever during the day just sleeping. They would normally all bundle up and sleep together but the last week or so they've taken to sleeping separately and as spread out as possible.

The dog is round assing everywhere trying to get cool. I'm keeping the house as cool as possible for her. I fill her water bowl constantly with chilled water out she's had a couple of mini milks as treats. She doesn't like water or I'd get her a paddling pool to bathe in.

Mine are fine. They usually follow me around a lot but they are just lying on the cold floor snoozing the days away.

My Lenny loves it, I've made him an area of shade for when I'm working in the garden but he'd rather try and catch all the flies/moths/bees/butterflies! I remind him to keep drinking which he does. I bought him a plastic kids sandpit and filled it with water. I put icecubes in it to keep it cool, he loves it!

If you can't get a pool then simply wet a towel and have your dog lie on it. Dogs cool from the bottom up so it's better than drenching them in water!
