Just find it strange tht so many people must hold someone else's ID to be satisfied. I bet no-one has received proper training on spotting a fake ID.- Well good luck purchasing foreign currency then! By law, I am AML trained twice yearly, and I have to be able to physically touch your ID to process a transaction through Trading Standards, otherwise it is MY right to refuse to serve you. And you wouldn't have an option but to hand over your ID to me as I work behind a safety bank screen.Much like no-one here is likely to have ever seen all foreign passports, but yet those are legitimate id's.- I also have access to a worldwide index that allows me to check the features of an ID type throughout the world. It is people with the same idealogy as you - that everything is your 'right' and you're right about everything - that makes jobs like mine a hell of a lot harder than they should be. I'm not asking to check your ID because I feel like it, I'm asking because BY LAW I have to, as many others have said, to check the feel of the card. And yes, I am trained to detect fake ID cards.

You look like a teenager, you act like a teenager and you don't want anyone getting a good look at your ID...

Good luck with getting served. I wouldn't risk the fine, myself.

Feel so much better for knowing all that.

As for foreign passports etc.. Totally irrelevant to this thread as currently they are not acceptable forms of ID for proof of age.

UK passport, driving licence and a PASS approved card are generally only what is accepted. I believe it is currently being revised and cards such as armed forces will soon be accepted.

I was picking up on what the OP said when he questioned if anyone would know about foreign forms of ID

Foreign passports are acceptable proof of age so long as they meet the minimum criteria - they must have a photo, date of birth and a holographic mark. Not all foreign passports meet this criteria but many do. Retailers don't have to accept them though as they may not be familiar enough with the particular passport in order to tell if it is genuine or not. In areas where there is a high concentration of people from a particular country living I would recommend to retailers that they investigate the security features on that nation's passports so they can confidently check them.

Military service cards have been acceptable as proof of age for some time now. It used to be that service personnel were not allowed to show the cards (terms of their employment) but MOD policy on that has changed so they are now allowed to.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Very true. Also Military ID cards are more secure than any other form of ID as they are very hard to replicate due to the structure of the card itself - another reason for needing to handle an ID card.

    That's a bet you'd lose then :D

Are you really forty four? You sound much younger . Most people by the time they've reached your age have developed enough maturity to realize how ID works and not to make people whose job it is to check more difficult.

im 27, as i said. But i do know how id works thanks

Great, im glad that's the case. but it isnt for 99.9% of the time when id is asked for. so fair enough, in your instance

Just so its clear, I am aware of both licencing laws and the right to refuse to serve.

Like i have said, I've had attempted fraud on my Account numerous times, and an experian search noted an account i didnt know about.

So im very careful with my ID, and will make a judgment call whether to hand it over or not. 99% of the time this isnt a problem.

It started because an assistant tried to snatch my card.
