This thread reminds me of that one I started ages ago about VAG group cars (amongst others) whose fog light comes on with the relevant indicator to assist the drivers view of the road when turning. It also split opinion. Obviously it only does this when the headlights are on, but if peoples headlights are on all the time, then it renders this feature largely useless in the daylight hours, and still makes you look like a chump with only one fog light working.

    I don't think it's the lights........ ;)

All new vehicles now have this requirement.

Mine doesn't, see my previous post.

I love how the creator of that image went to the trouble of giving it a white border just to make sure your eyes aren't adjusted to the lighting conditions.

Here's my version, notice any changes?

    It should have them.

If not I would complain as in a couple of years time it will be on the MOT list of reasons for rejection.

You'll often catch me with my dipped beam on. I won't shout at you, nor will I apologise. Thanks for slowing down and letting me past though!
Ever hear of car crashes, where one driver didn't see the other? Ever hear of a bike crash where a car driver didn't see the bike?
THAT is why people drive around with their lights on.
Volvos have always had DLRs (not dipped beam) and any new cars now will have them too. DLRs are not as bright as dipped beam and look to me just a bit better than sidelights, depending on model.

I had a vauxhall corsa hire car last year, with DRLs. The DRLs and the sidelights were the same bulb, however changing from no lights (so DRL on) to sidelights actually made them dimmer! i thought it would just stay the same. pretty illogical to me, unless someone can tell me why a sidelight would be dimmer than the DRL it's replacing otherwise?

DRLs because people are stupid enough to not use lights at night, but some fools will use the parking lights instead. So DRLs come in brighter....

Totally incorrect I'm sorry to say.

Qashqai was launched 6 years ago, the DRL 'thing' is only applicable for cars type approved ('designed' if you like) Feb 2011 onwards. The new shape Qashqai will definitely have them when it arrives soon.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

Correct, though the Qashqai did have a face lift for 2010, DRLs are available as an optional extra, however, I decided I'd rather switch my headlights on than pay silly money for garish LED strips.

Thanks for putting me straight on that guys - I didn't know it was Type Approval after Feb 2011.

I thought it was straight 'first registered' thing.

Every day is a school day on here, right enough.
