Most "rational people" wouldn't need DLRs because they know what conditions require dipped headlights.

Although people are a bit strange in Nordic countries they also have a lot of bad weather and at times less daylight.

Where have you been recently (lets say the last 10 years plus). Mandatory in Nordic countries, dipped daylight running lights have been around for at least ten years, and are proven on safety grounds.

Yes, I too would be annoyed if dipsticks "warned me" constantly. Pay more attention!

People in Nordic countries are a bit strange - why do we have to be saddled with a rule dictated by them?

You are obviously one of the dipsticks with lights on all the time!

'I have a Nissan with iffy electrics' :D

Seriously though, they are not working correctly.

    Yes they are ;)

It is a Note, see how many notes have the headlights on in bright light.

The ones that don't have them set to "OFF"

(The Note is a Nissan/Renault effort. Nissan make the petrol engine and Renault make the electrics...........)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Maybe something to do with the fact that we are in the EU? As for having lights on all the time, well that depends on the conditions you are driving in (daytime included) to whether you should have your (dipped) head lights on. Personally I think that if you are unable to correctly identify when you should use your headlights, then you should not be driving in the first place.

And on that bombshell, it's time to say GOODNIGHT! :D

Ever been in an accident and had to fill out an accident claim form?

There is a question - "Did you have your lights on".

Seeing as saying "yes" to this can only be the best answer then for the past 20 years I always drive with them on. (and so I can be seen better).

Now they are the DRL (Not DLR as has been used) type. (although not dazzlers like Audi's.)

Seems that Norfolk has its share of strange ones too. I actually have a landrover, which doesn't have DLR; however, I am not sure you'd notice the difference between that and a Volvo, given your general level of perception.
I just hope you don't drive at 30 in front of a line that includes a police car, or cause an accident while being an idiot like this. The excuse that you were "warning" someone about their DLR lights won't sound that clever then.

Ok perhaps I should not warn others being prats, but if I decide I want to travel at 30 there is nothing wrong with it. As I was told a long time ago the speed limit is up to a max., of set for that road not you have to travel at that max., speed.

As I said earlier I have never been caught for speeding and get to my destination eventually and if you leave in plenty of time the is no problem. Who needs speed?

    Who needs speed?

I find it useful when trying to overtake cyclists...

I haven't read the full thread, aside from the first post, however.....I note

Folk forget they've got the headlights on, having deemed a need earlier in their journey...?

Folk see someone else with their headlights on, so think , ''that must be correct, so I'll put mine on?''

Military vehicles have them on [Standing Orders], because Mr Army has publicly stated, he paints them that colour, 'to blend in with the background''.....and Mr Berk, having just bumped into Mr Army, says''well, it works, I didn't see you!''

I admit to making my own judgement as to whether I need headlights on or not.

But that in itself can be awkward, especially if in amongst a gaggle of lemmings with all their own headlights on...the eye being drawn [moth-like] to the lights, rather than the object.

I consider it 'nice' to have headlights on [in wintertime] when driving with a low winter sun right behind...helps oncoming drivers see their doom approaching?

When driving in daylight, with headlights on, I make use of the headlamp beam adjuster [if it works, which often they don't, in my cars]....to lower the beams to reduce chances of dazzle, especially on bumpy roads....

I never use my headlamp flasher to say 'thank you' at night, to a driver who is really close by.....that sort of unthinking gratitude really annoys me, as the sudden bright flash burns the backs of my eyeballs out....so I don't return the compliment.....instead, I turn my headlights off, then back on again...[round hereabouts, such action is slowly catching on....]

The downside of use of headlights to make vehicles more 'visible' is it breeds a generation of drivers who become too lazy to observe properly.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
