'Put forward for type approval' means a brand new design essentially, a new model that's looking to be launched.
A 'current production model' is not a car that is being built as we type, it's a version of car currently in production - in this example, the Qashqai has been in production since 2007, and was probably type approved in 2006/2007.
So this;
The Directive, which has been adopted today, foresees that from 7 February 2011 onwards all new types of passenger cars and small delivery vans will have to be equipped with DRL. Trucks and buses will follow 18 months later, i.e. August 2012.
is wrong then? As I said, happy to be shown the correct definitive legislation because it appears to be a grey area.
EDIT; The penny has just dropped. But i would of thought there would of been a cut off date which would of been reached by now. Otherwise a manufacturer could dictate when IT introduced DLRs to a model by letting an existing one continue in production.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

It's not a grey area Tilt, you are choosing to read it wrong
A car launched in 2007 ISN'T A NEW TYPE!
Hope that helpsAnd that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
Driving around this afternnoon I saw a lot of people driving with headlights full on - it is bright sunshine and not a cloud in the sky ie no storms etc.
Not motorways just ordinary A, B and country roads.
I tried to tell a couple of people but they just got very annoyed!
Is this a new form of lets try and be even more stupid than they are normally or a new craze?
Where have you been recently (lets say the last 10 years plus). Mandatory in Nordic countries, dipped daylight running lights have been around for at least ten years, and are proven on safety grounds.
Yes, I too would be annoyed if dipsticks "warned me" constantly. Pay more attention!Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -
Well it does
DLR is the Docklands Light Railway, however....
DRL are Daylight Running Lights, and all new cars have them.
You might be strange enough to think there is something wrong with them, most rational people understand the safety improvement they bring.
Apparently not...PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

Hang on... NOT 'choosing'. See my previous post which I have now edited.
And the Fiat 500 was launched before 2011 but that now has DLRs and it hasn't had a face lift!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
a manufacturer could dictate when IT introduced DLRs to a model by letting an existing one continue in production.
They could, absolutely, however, people generally want the 'latest thing', and cars DESIGNED before Feb 2011 are not going to sell very well in 2019 (for example).
So, as manufacturers launch their new models, bit by bit their whole range gets DRL's.And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -

Volvo's have had them since 1878
No one is saying they didn't exist before Feb 2011, it's just that's when they became a compulsory feature for newly designed cars.
Some manufacturers have 'retro' fitted them, I guess the 500 is one such model, because believe it or not, they sell cars (LED ones at least).
I work with a brand where some lower spec models have 'bulb' DRL's, and higher specs have LED DRL's - you can't begin to imagine how many people go for the higher spec just for them! And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
No I think you have missed the point. Fiat 500s did not have DLRs until about 18 months ago. I tested an 09 one and that didn't have them.
Strange then that Fiat now produce/sell a pre-Feb 11 model with DLRs is what i'm saying.
Personally I don't like them especially the LED strip type ones on cars like Citreon, They make the car look naff IMHO. However, not so bad on an Audi though!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

That's so, is it? A rule which (might) make sense in Norway is applied across the entire EU under conformist pressure from Nordic countries.
I'd like to see some evidence for this 'most people' claim.0
