Incidentally, I have a Nissan Qashqai on a 13 plate, it is the second from top model (360) brought out for 13 plate, no DRLs.
It should have. As a result of European legislation adopted in 2008 dedicated daytime running lights (DRL) have been required on all new types of passenger cars and small delivery vans since February 2011. Trucks and buses followed from August 2012.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

AFAIK it applies to vehicles BUILT (not registered) after Feb 2011. Happy to be corrected with a link to the relevant legislation though.
It maybe the case that a 'new' car without DLRs may of been built prior to Feb 2011.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

Wrong again, sorry;

The Fiat 500 DRL can be turned off, although the option is deep in the settings menu rather than via the light controls.
I always have mine on, they turn off when dipped beams are used.
I had a Japanese import motorbike registered in 1994 which had no off setting for the headlight. It simply makes vehicles more visible0 -
Is it? All that states is; "The announcement states that cars being put forward for type approval must have daytime running lights from yesterday (February 7), but not current production models".
To me that means (must admit it's a tad unclear) that the new directive only applies to cars 'type approved' AFTER 7th Feb 2011 but not cars currently in production at that time.
I would of thought (by 2013) that a new car bought within the last 12 months would of been approved and built with DLRs. But it is possible that the car in question was built during Feb 2011 or shortly after thus making it exempt.
Here is a link to the official press release;

Note the bit; The Directive, which has been adopted today, foresees that from 7 February 2011 onwards all new types of passenger cars and small delivery vans will have to be equipped with DRL. Trucks and buses will follow 18 months later, i.e. August 2012.
As I say, happy to be shown the correct definitive legislation because it appears to be a grey area.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
I have a Nissan with "Auto" lights. These light up in bright sunshine by them selves. (so mine are switched to "OFF")
It also came with "Auto" wipers. These furiously wipe a dry screen until the blades wear out, but don't wipe the screen in the rain until about 3 seconds after the crash due to lack of visibility (So they are switched "OFF" too......)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

'Put forward for type approval' means a brand new design essentially, a new model that's looking to be launched.
A 'current production model' is not a car that is being built as we type, it's a version of car currently in production - in this example, the Qashqai has been in production since 2007, and was probably type approved in 2006/2007.And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -

'I have a Nissan with iffy electrics'
Seriously though, they are not working correctly.And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
Before today I thought DLR was the Docklands Light Railway!
Well it does
DLR is the Docklands Light Railway, however....
DRL are Daylight Running Lights, and all new cars have them.
You might be strange enough to think there is something wrong with them, most rational people understand the safety improvement they bring.====0
