I've recently been trying to find a better quality food than Whiskas and Go-cat now I can afford it.

I tried my kitten on Kitten Applaws but he wasn't impressed and neither were the others.

I'm now feeding them Purely from PetsAtHome (don't know if it's available elsewhere) It's not got a high level of meat in it I don't think but the ingredients seem better than the cheap brands. It's on offer at the moment 2x2kg bags for £12 and it recommends 50g per day for an average cat. Mine only like the salmon flavour though.

Not sure that it's quite as high quality as you're after.

I do nto measure my cats dry food either - it is just there for them to have whenever they want it.

BUT I need to know how much a bag will last, when I buy it - that is why all the calculations.

If you don't measure then how are the cats supposed to know how much they should eat? Are you expecting them to read the bag?

If you're going to fill three bowls or whatever each day, then you should measure how much that is because the cats won't stop eating at the recommended guide amounts if they're still hungry.

You are missing the point here I am afraid.

This calculating business is purely tpo make sure I order enough to last them a month as \i only order cat/dog food/litter once per month. Also to calculate avaregage monthly cost of dry food.

I'm not the one missing the point.

If you're calculating how much to order based on how much the manufacturer says you'll need to feed, rather than how much you'll actually put down, then you may as well just be putting a random number down for all the good it will do.

Oh dear - no I am not.

My cats eat tins in addition to dry so if I order what manufacturer recommends and based on total weight of all my cats - I will always have food left over each month.

I do not measure dry food for them, they graze on it when/how they want.

BUT I want to make sure I have enough.

In any case, this is my way of ordering, nobody asks you to follow so not sure what your point is?
  • I understood what you meant gettingready . I free feed ( ie leave the dry down for them) and initially they would Hoover it up in one go! Now they leave it and go back and just graze when they want. If you also feed wet they would need even less dry than the quantities recommended. I buy a 15kg bag of the dog food and a 6kg bag of the cat and between 4 greedy cats and a greedy dog it seems to last really well. I got my last order well over a month ago and there is still a lot more than half left). I was scared when I saw how little the recommended amounts actually look in the bowl! But they are all thriving. They eat much less as the food has no 'fillers' in it so they stay full for longer. I can't recommend it highly enough. The packaging is quite plain but the animals all go loopy when they see the postie with a hessian sack!:j:rotfl:

I spent a fortune on Orijen for them and the doggy and they all ignored it! Typical! So I donated it to our very grateful rescue.
:rotfl:If it weren't for stress I'd have no energy at all. First rule of acting: Whatever happens, look as if it were intended.;)
Don't follow in my footsteps, I walk into walls:smileyhea When in doubt .............mumble.
I may look busy, but I'm just confused.:T I smile because i have no idea what's going on.:rotfl:
  • I've got 5 cats. I free-feed them various dry biscuits and they share a can of wet food at night.

I buy from Zooplus which has excellent prices and fast delivery. I vary the food I buy, depending what's on special offer. There is a big range of wet and dry food and different flavours etc. I thoroughly recommend their cat food.

I've also used James Wellbeloved but can't remember where I buy it from!
