Got a reply to my email complaining about packaging:Dear ....
Thanks for taking the time to email us and I do apologise for the delay in getting back to you.
The Vitapurr was in temporary packaging when we inherited it from the previous owners of the Vitalin brand. We have continued to provide it in this format as we did not acquire any branded packaging. We have not commissioned any new packaging as it was our intention to discontinue the product.
The product has been discontinued today with immediate effect.
Kind Regards
.....

Just an upgrade of my purchase from Eden cat food:
http://www.uk.edenpetfoods.com/eden-cat-food-18-c.asp
Cats like it/love it, whether it is slick Ghosty cat, or big Freddie Bear cat!
Just love the ingredients and much better than the Hills product I was using. Just waiting for big Freddie to start shedding the pounds now. Been on it about a week, so early days.0 -
Eden is too expensive with 6 cats

I am trying to decide between Taste of the Wild and Orijen....
Will be ordering next Friday so.....got few days left0 -
:eek:New Multipack Offer: 3 x 6kg £36/bag and 5 x 6kg £32/bag
that is £108 for 3 bags of 6kg each so 18kg :eek:0 -
I have now read this looooong thread
For my two Penney worth
I started looking at feeds when I got 2 new kittens this year
Feeding has come a long way
A common theme which affects price and quality is the meat source
Eg Orijen meat is derived from chicken meat. This is therefore not a meat meal or meal rendered from a non defined animal. There is also no other cheap filler eg maize. IMO I believe a lot of the maize, corn and other ingredients derived from corn in animal feeds will be GM derived unless it states otherwise.
I have also noticed that a common theme is beet pulp added in most dry foods. I believe his is for cheap calories and palatability and has no place in a cat food. But admittedly is hard to avoid. From my hunting only Orijen and Acana did not have this ingredient.
Palatability in a lot of cheaper feed is because the biscuit is sprayed in animal fats so that they are highly palatable. I think this is why a lot of cats which have been fed a biscuit manufactured in this way turn up their noses at other food and are hard to wean off them.
Have a look at nutrivet instinct the only negative ingredient I could see in this was the beet pulp but itis a good price with no GM Ingredients or cheap fillers.
My kittens were hooked on fish and RC but with perseverance they are now on raw, Lilly's kitchen and Orijen or Acana.
James well beloved now also have a cereal free cat food however meat content is not as high as eg 80% and the meat source is derived from meat meal as opposed to meat.
Sorry for long post :-) hope it's useful0 -

Beeping beep - it has gone too
That really worries me as I had no idea there had been a change in owner - will have to do a bit more research and check they've not changed the ingredients in the dog food (which is what often happens unfortunately:()Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Re cruelty testing...then don't use Royal Canin either..they are sponsors of bear baiting with dogs, just read an article about it on Yahoo.
QUOTE=Dimey;62418195]As to which brand of dry food. I wouldn't use Iams because of their cruelty testing on cats and dogs.
I used Hills but that's the brand my cats were on their whole lives (incl. kitten, regular, senior and KD) and they developed and died of kidney failure.
I now use Royal Canin wet and dry. I don't measure it. I just have dishes in 3 rooms that I keep fresh daily so its not stale. I have water dishes next to it.
(I put any uneaten cat food wet/dry out for the local fox family at night. They have two cubs at the moment.)TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -

Glad they like it!:T mine still absolutely love it and are thriving on it! I have noticed that now they are getting it all the time they only eat small amounts and come back to it - whereas they would Hoover it up thinking it was going to be taken away when they started getting it first!.
I buy a 15kg bag of the dog food and a 6 kg bag of the cat and mix them! For people who think the cat food is too expensive -you can mix it down with the dog food and that makes it more economical. I'm definitely sticking with it as my 4 cats and daft dog are all thriving - glossy coats, bright eyes and lovely white teeth. No smelly poos either! :j and they seem less hungry on it!
Be careful not to over feed though cos they need less :-) mine over indulged at first so need to lose their wee pot bellies now:D.
Edited cos I forgot to say that I also feed mine raw for one meal so they don't just get dried food!:rotfl:If it weren't for stress I'd have no energy at all. First rule of acting: Whatever happens, look as if it were intended.;)
Don't follow in my footsteps, I walk into walls:smileyhea When in doubt .............mumble.
I may look busy, but I'm just confused.:T I smile because i have no idea what's going on.:rotfl:0 -
I do nto measure my cats dry food either - it is just there for them to have whenever they want it.
BUT I need to know how much a bag will last, when I buy it - that is why all the calculations.0
