The Secret Dreamworld of a (Scottish) Shopaholic

  • Hello everyone!

Another wasted Thursday morning, as my 2 booked (work) appointments have cancelled. Still, I am glad of the time to myself! I have been looking around for a new job, but all I have found so far are jobs that are fixed term until 31 March 2015 and/or cr&p pay. It's so frustrating as they are jobs I could do, could get and would like, but they are only for 18 months & just don't pay enough. My current job is pants & uninspiring but is permanent and pays in some cases £10k more pa pro rata, than those advertised.

I am having a good money week this week & have powered through my to do list. I made approx. £25 on eBay this week which has all been posted off & have another 6 items listed, I also completed a double mystery shop (comparing 2 shops against each other) for £30, which should be paid on 1st October. Not including the above items, I've another £75 to make over the next 11 days to meet my target, which should be achieveable. My sling is not selling, so I might have to find another place to sell this. Then I move onto October, where I have to make £258 to meet my end of October target - it's never ending! I hope November will be a bit easier...

I am very very proud of myself for resisting a NEXT VIP sale invitation, I was so tempted, but no!

And despite living in rainy cold Scotland, I've still not put the heating on, yahoo!

Hope you're all well, thanks for the support & comments.

    Hi,

I'm creeping out of the woodwork to say hi and well done on achieving your goals!

I did Mystery Shopping for about 3 years but found I always overspent on the budget given so ate into the 'profit' and found the SA tax and saving for it a chore.. It didn't help that when I stopped doing it and notifed the tax office of this it co-incided with my FT work changing pay companies and I ended up with half a months salary to pay a full months bills... it did get sorted the following month thankfully!

Well done for resisting NEXT and not putting the heating on as i'm sure its getting chilly up in Scotland now.

  • Hi SS just read through your diary and must say I'm not sure how you've coped with so much pressure! I certainly couldn't have. Huge respect to you :o

Couldn't believe how much you got charged for a few little cups of milk a few pages back! Mouth dropped open and an eyebrow raised when I saw. Really is ridiculous!

Well done on doing so well with earning extra incomes as well. I've only just started doing eBay for selling after years of only using it to buy and I've been wondering whether I could buy things cheap from shops and see if they could sell for any more on there!

Here's a virtual glass of Raspberry Voddy and Coke on me! Subscribed to your thread, big hugs :)

  • Have you tried Amaz0n for selling things? I use FB sales pages, gumtree and have used local notice boards for things that are too much of a pain to send! These always sell the quickest! I use the notice board in the local shop and it's right next to the cash machine ;) so people queuing always see it :p

I've kept the heating off so far, not that cold down here in the East yet though :) i'm aiming for it off all through October too but we'll see ;) it's colder already that this time last year! xx

  • Hmmmm interesting possible twist to my situation- missing period.

We are definitely NOT trying, in fact if I am pregnant, it'd be near immaculate conception.

I have not kept good notes on when my last period was, but am fairly sure it was over 5 weeks ago....

I refuse to spend ££ on pregnancy tests, so will wait it out over the next few days...

    Aargh!

i am only on page 5 of your story but i just wanted to say thank you very very much.

you spoke about the gruffalo book in scots (i think you were going to buy the gruffalo's wean)... so i looked on amazon and it is only £5.24 so i am going to buy it for my nephew's boxing day present. we have a second xmas on boxing day. nothing spectacular, everyone gets a £5 pressie each from "santa" and i "cook" xmas dinner (steal my parent's leftovers to reheat and claim i made).
    :o

i am loving your honesty in your diary and i really hope you succeed. as i said, i am only on page 5 but i plan on reading the whole thing. good luck with the rest of your journey.

have finished reading your diary now.

hope you are feeling better and more upbeat than you were earlier in the month. like others, i can't even imagine how i would have coped in your situation.
    *hugs*

i am not sure whether this "twist" is wanted or not so i will just say that i hope you get the result you want in the next few weeks.
    :o

good luck in the rest of your journey. i hope it goes smoother for you in the future.

    Hi Scottishspendaholic, uh oh!!

I'd be the same with the pregnancy test thing, you could always go to the docs and they'll do one for free?

Another reason that your period could be late, could be down to stress? Its not uncommon to miss one if you're majorly stressed, and given the money situation and the burden you have on your mind, it might be that?

Easy for me to say, but try not to worry and hopefully things will come right.
