Me and my OH each have our own bank accounts that our wages are paid into, then a joint account which we both have a standing order set up to pay rent plus add in the same amount each time we get the utility bills to pay them equally. With regards to food shopping, we each withdraw £20 a week from our own accounts and then just pool the cash.If we need a few extra bits then whoevers more likely to pass a shop will get it, we don't keep tabs though. If I need to borrow a tenner off him for petrol, then I say I'll pay it back but I know he doesn't expect it back.Same with if something happens to his car, he doesn't have the money to pay for it but I do, I'll just pay it and won't expect it back as I kow he'd do the same for me.If we go for meals out, we either pay using spare money in our joint account or he pays as he earns more than me.So we like to keep things equal but at the same time help each other out when its needed and never expect to even it out as such, and we have never ever argued about money!0

Every couple have to sort their finances to their own satisfaction but it can become an issue when the income isn't equal or one partner spends more than the other.
I do find it odd the OP is contemplating separate food shopping but having known several was bodybuilders I found out
(a) bodybuilders are generally dull people as it is such a strict regime it impacts all areas of your life and
(b) the cost of the regime is astronomical - the protein powder is well over £30 and doesn't last long and the amount of food is substantial.
I completely understand why OP does not wish to fund this expensive lifestyle choice.0 -
As soon as I moved in with with my now husband we both put the same amount into a joint account and all bills & food come out of that. I'm now a SAHM so it's just his money going in but what's his is mine now.0
