Do you have them hot or room temp? BTW - that look's like DP's painting style, he never gets pretty pics though, only splatters........:D
:)
Smilie nearly didn't appear today as I got the Blue Screen of Death on my computer last night :eek::eek:
Seems to be OK this morning
Talking of bags for life.
I like taking my Ald* bag to Waitr*se

mcculloch29 wrote: »GP's post of the DM readers hiding Jack's book reminds me of DD's tales of all those who come in to her discount supermarket with M&S and Waitrose bags. Well, the Waitrose bags are a dead giveaway, the nearest one is 30 miles away...! I like their cloth bags myself.
I have a W8trose jute bag and I do occasionally shop in W8trose as their reduced stuff really is reduced, they have lots of different things I cant get in any other supermarket esp on the baking front and their own brand value is as cheap and as good as anywhere else - couldnt do a weeks shop there although I see plenty who do:eek:
When I shop in T*sco I always use the self scan option (as I hate shopping of any sort and this way I can be in and out in double quick time) when I put my W8trose bag 'in the bagging area' there is always a message that comes up on screen that bag needs to be verified - never happens with any other bag even other jute one!:rotfl:Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I'm taking the bags thing seriously
I use a shopping trolley if I go to the supermercado in person, but deliveries, and other shops, I collect all the bags I can - I use them to put rubbish in the bin. I don't want to have to pay for bags to put my rubbish in :rotfl: just one of the ways I don't spend
Hope everyone has a good day2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Upsidedown Bear - I had absolutely no idea you had met Mr GP in RL!Although I'm not sure if ^ video is when we ran out of tea bags, or when the telecommunications company decided they didn't want to let him see the motorcycling on Sunday.... :rotfl: And I love that you are darn well gonna claim yer tuppence from mrT!
As I'd do the same.....
I reason for posting is that .......
We need a reason to post on here???? Oh lawks - I just thought I could come on here and witter a bit, and then wander off again...... Oh dear, oh dear.... oh dear, oh dear :think: *snort* at mrT *needing* to verify your mrW bag though :rotfl:
wishus and Beanie - I hear you on the carp food being cheap in comparison to good, fresh, healthy stuff. Access to it is increasingly difficult too. We're getting more like the US with 'food deserts' in our communities as each year passes. I really don't know what the answer is though. As I've said before, where I am, the local market charges more than m&$ and mrW for fresh produce :eek: Although I did spot a couple of things last week that were good value - including the garlic I mentioned buying (which was double the price in the greengrocers, for the same brand :eek:) Perhaps they're cottoning on? We can but hope. Interestingly though, the 'theme' (?) for my November meal-planner is reliant on fresh veg - I'm going to attempt a fresh, frugal and 'fantastic' month...... watch me use my budget up by the end of week one...... :rotfl:
maddiemay - tell me you don't coordinate your bags for life to match your shopping outfit....... :rotfl:
karma - I think mrT are starting to use paper bags for their produce for home delivery, but the argument against them is that they are more polluting to produce than the plastic bags. It's difficult. I use as little plastic as possible, but don't know how to get around the 'wet' waste - even though we have very little really, what with the compost bin in full scale use.
Well, I spent money today. I went to the orange supermercado. Tell me friends, when did it become so expensive?? :eek: I was absolutely shocked. I mean, all the headlines are that shoppers are heading in their droves to the discounters and yet this supermarket charges 30p for their basic range red kidney beans???? I did get t bags, which are still priced in line with the other supermercados. I got some hot chocolate powder, fair trade, £1.10 for 500g (was 99p for the same thing last time I got it, but still......) I got some beans and lentils, which are same price/cheaper than their competitors, and I got some cheese that was on offer - not that I thought the offer was super brill, but I needed the specific type of cheese (Caerphilly) and so I got the 2 for £3, rather than pay £2 for one block (I got some red Leicester for a bit of variety). I got some of their basics parmesan-type cheese too. £10.70 later :eek: It's just as well it is the least accessible supermercado for me, because in reality, it is too expensive for me to shop there on a regular basis
I was concentrating predominantly on the 'valoo' lines, but their prices are higher than the other supermercados for the same product lines
Hey ho. Got the TV guide too. They've altered that around and now have virtually every programme from one satellite provider listed - at the expense of listing the programs available through our telecoms provider. DP not happy..... Watch the price of the mag shoot up in the next week or two as well....... and the soap stars are still doing away with each other all over the cover.........
Dinner this evening was Jollof Rice, the version I made hails from Sierra Leone. Normally you cook everything together - like a biriyani. However, I tend to cook the rice separately and then combine at the end. But tonight, I thought that the 'stew' looked quite colourful, so I just put the stew on top of the rice on the plate. Pic here;
And if you'd like a bash at the recipe, then you can (hopefully) find the recipe HERE. We like it - mixed together, or separate, and it's a keeper in our recipe fileI used jarred mezze aubergines and red peppers because I had then - regrettably, they are cheaper than fresh ingredients too.........
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for tasty food, sufficient quantity and the means to cook it
for our 'store-cupboard' budget - pay for as you use it, then you'll have the pennies to stock up with more.......
for the gentleman who held the door open for me and the lady who stopped her car to let me cross the road - HURRAH for small acts of kindness :j
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and bringing such interesting discussions aboutI shall endeavour to witter less, and find reasons to post

Dearest rtandon - how kind you are. Now, I know that it wasn't me that was enquiring, as I have a copy. But I do remember a discussion around the Be-ro book, as someone mentioned the edition that I know that the non-gardening parental had for many years. I am, however, sure that someone will be interested in having such a good cookery tome in their kitchen - all the basics covered, no doubt
Thanks for mentioning, I hope it jogs someone's memory.

Hello Greying and chums! I seem to have caught up on my sleep now and have tackled the clothes washing mountain today.:T DD has dismantled her cabin bed to sell and replaced it with a really feminine one we had stored in the loft so no cost involved.:A We are also selling a Fossil handbag never used so between the two we should raise 100 pounds towards our puppy!
DD also bought some puppy items today with savings from her allowance and has started her Christmas present shopping. We have a budget of ten pounds per person in our family and it works really well. Far less stressful to have a modest budget and there are loads of lovely things we can buy.:rotfl: Mr L has some really nice luxury Christmas nibbles so I am going to put together a mini hamper for my parentals. The butter fudge is superb!:)
We've made progress today and I'm really pleased. We saw lots of lovely small dogs today and have petted quite a few. But Pirin is the one for us. :jOne lady had got her one off the internet, it was delivered the next day to her so probably a puppy farm.:( We can't bear that so we are going through a kennel club breeder. More expensive but at least we know there's no cruelty involved.:A
I hope you've all had a lovely day. I haven't posted much recently but I read every night and each morning. Lots of best wishes!!With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!
