Just another little hi-jack for hopefuljoy re the soon to be woof family member. If you and DD are in love with one particular breed (Yorkie was it?), nearly all the breeds have a "breed rescue facility". Often each geographical area will have a person, more often than not an acredited breeder who will co-ordinate the search for a suitable new owner for a dog or puppy that needs a new home, sometimes they will be fostered pro-tem, other times coming directly from present home. They do stirling work and the ones that I have become aware of try very hard to match up the dog/family concerned.
A quick google search found http://www.yorkieandtoybreedrescue.co.uk/
and http://www.dogsblog.com/category/yorkshire-terrier/ this little one is just 18 weeks old:(

I come on to tell you all about 'us tea' and I find such interesting conversation flowing without me
Firstly, regarding the Be-ro cookbook. Yes, Beanie you are quite right, and I didn't make it clear in my post that there is a charge for the Bero book, whether you get it from them or from mrM (if they still stock it?) However, to pick up on Upsidedown Bear's point about Bero 'replacing' copies - I'm pretty sure that I read about this on here some years ago - most likely OS board - and folk had wondered whether Bero would still honour the pledge. Unfortunately, I cannot recall what the outcome was if someone had a go at contacting them. Mind, Bero are probs on book of facial these days, so you'd get an instant response. But who knows where a nicely handwritten letter on 007's vellum product would get ya..........
Karma - unfortunately I was complaining about the pricing strategy of mrSI cannot see how they can charge (for example) 30p for their basiks tinned red kidney beans when the discounters are only charging 23p and everyone is ditching the big 4 like mad anyway......... Having said that, I've never been totally taken with mrAl or mrL. I use them, but only for 'bits' never a 'whole' shop.
 Pips - how are ya gal? I bet your Bero book is stuck open at the tattie scone recipe page...... :rotfl:
mizmir - don't apologise - jump right in. It's your chosen specialised subject after allLovely to *see* you
maddiemay - INSPIRED!! I never knew such a charity existed - and part of me is glad it does, and part of me is sad it is needed......... Thanks for sharing that - you are so kind and thoughtful
Now, Hopefuljoy - ultimately, the decision is for you and your DD, so don't mind us nor what we suggest, as it is just that - suggestions and thoughts. It's been interesting reading what everyone has to say though.........My only suggestion - as I know y'all have done your research..Is to approach it, as with everything in life with an open mind. You already have a rescue cat - did you choose it? or did it chose you? Dogs are slightly different, but by seeing all that is 'available' perhaps a little dawgy might appear that may never have appeared on your radar at all.......... Good luck, and hope it all goes well, when Pirin joins the family. Best loved doggie in the whole of your town? Best loved doggie in the whole of the SE more likely....
Thanks Gang - I've so enjoyed reading all your posts today - I've said it before, but I'll repeat it again, YOU ARE ALL BRILLIANT

Good Evening :hello:
Greying reporting in for a pretty pedestrian update of me day, when considered alongside the possibilities of puppy dawgs
So I found 5p *roadkill* today :j It was on the pedestrian crossing going into mrM. DP did ask whether I risked life and limb to pick it up - which is not an unfair question, given that the standard of driving in our local branch's car park is pretty  at the best of times.......
I did spend money, but I got a lot of YS's for me money, and things that hopefully will appear in 'next month's' food plannerI also nipped into the market for a ganders and came away with some lovely barginacious savoy cabbage and romanesco cauli (89p for a HUGE Lancastrian one
) and a bag of 9 cox's apples for 99p - they weren't small neither
Today the market beat m&$ and mrW for valoo by a long stretch..... which, I may add, is how it should be imho
So, NSD out of the window, but hopefully it will pay dividends in the long run
Dinner this evening was Kale and Soba Noodles in a Ginger Chilli Sauce - originally a recipe by Adele McConnell. I adapted it to what I had - to the extent that I can probably only claim to have been inspired by AdeleIt was OK, not a dish I would hurry to make again. My substitutions may have been the problem, or the standard of my soba noodles (m&$
). I used savoy cabbage, not kale, haricot beans not tofu, a few dried mushrooms rather than button mushrooms and I didn't have any chilli paste....... I also made my version with more broth - which I actually think suited my particular ingredients more. Had I been following faithfully the original version, I would have used less liquid. Anyhoo, a pic for proof that I failed
The noodles were very claggy and the cabbage could have done with a minute or two's more cooking (I always get paranoid that I'll over cook it.....) The beans are the last 500g from a 3kg catering pack I got from App Fo0ds. I cooked the whole 500g and then used about 200g in the dish. There is a portion of it left over. DP tried to be kind, but given how much he pushed it around the bowl, I don't think he really liked it.... Ah well. Still, at least my version wasn't too costly. Had I used 'good' noodles and tofu, it would have been an expensive dish - but may well have tasted a whole heap better too!
My fault, not the recipe - do have a bash at it, if it is your thing.........
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
the good folk of MSE
for DP - tonight's tea created an awful lot of washing up...
for experimentation - if you don't try, you don't know
Thanks for dropping in, reading and commenting. You're ace, you're brill and I remain grateful to you
See y'all later.

:rotfl: never mind, you're not wholly taken with the discounters, I'm with you on this. I'm also with you on complaining about MrS ... toerags, the lot of them!
And your cabbage in the piccie looks beautifully crunchy - thank heavens for DP and his washing up skills, absolutely
Have a good evening.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi there Greying and chums! Thank you so much for the input on dogs, you've all been really positive and helpful. Because we've no experience at all we are going to go down the safe route and get a puppy with a pedigree cert. Our cat chose us so you're right Greying, but dogs seem far more complicated and we are terrified of getting it wrong for the dog.
However, I am really sad that so many dogs are homeless. I just wish we could find a way of helping them all. I hope no one will judge us for our decision.
Anyhow, have a lovely evening folks! With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

No judgment from here, I was just pointing out the options, you need to do what is best for your circumstances, and of course we will want regular updates once he arrives:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
