Thanks. I know I need to reign her in somewhat....but goodness..I'm not looking forward to the backlash :rotfl:

You will be FINE! You've already said you're a feisty madam, so you'll be more than capable of reigning in DD. :)

And if you get any backlash, start another thread - we'll all support you. Good luck!
Just bought a new house with the help of this site! :D

Wow, my niece is 11 on saturday and she's getting some books and earrings from me. Her mum's bought her a new outfit for her end of school leaving party, and her grandparents are taking her out for lunch. I know she'll be grateful for all of it. And she knows that if she wasn't (and if there was a hint of stropping) she wouldn't get anything after that.
  • Well so far I have booked a hotel stay for her and I. A nice meal in a restaurant she has always wanted to go to. Hopefully the zoo keeper experience, I have bought her a watch, new bag and new ugg boots. And I'm paying for her room to be redecorated and re carpeted( although I don't class that as birthday really..but it's eating into the budget). I will buy a few guides bits as fillers and open her a new bank account too.

Perhaps I will leave it at that and see how she reacts.

    Thanks for all the suggestions
Its all mind over matter. I don't mind and you don't matter:rotfl:

gosh I think I got a CD player and the Mr Blobby single when I was 11 (in 1994 lol)and I was so chuffed lol.

Personally I think you're bonkers buying an 11 year old kid an iPhone, even a Blackberry and I have to echo what the majority of what others have said.

Where do you live Troutwrestler? Just wondering, as we live in what is seen as an affluent suburb of Manchester (Richard and Judy used to live down the road) and I've not seen any children at the primary school here with manicured nails or streaked hair.

Some of the familes around here are very well off, many houses cost around £500k+ (including that of one of my daughter's best friends) but the young children really don't have the gadgets and stuff that you say all the kids in your area expect. I wondered whether it was a regional variation?

We live in scotland, in a reasonable area, but there are plenty of girls in my daughters school who have their hair and nails done... Totally normal here

Why stop there though? If you've gone that far you may as well get a gold unicorn that poops rubies. Just don't expect any gratitude for it.
