Sorry to hear about the wardrobe nightmare CW. is it possible the fixings already used for the frame which needs to be replaced could be in the same place for the new frame? In the worst case if they have to do any new drilling etc, would the new frame cover any old holes? I would make it very clear that they need to remove the wrong frame carefully so as not to damage the paintwork. Or could you do this yourself to ensure its done with care? Make sure they have dust sheets down over your new carpet (too late to postpone I assume?) is it possible for you to leave the furniture out of that room until they've rectified the problem? I know it's a total pain and really really annoying (the kind of thing I'd prob get angry then cry hysterically about, like a proper balanced human being :rotfl:) but it could save a lot of hassle moving it again or getting it dusty. I would also advise the company that if they get your new carpet dirty at all, you will be paying to have it professionally cleaned and invoicing them for the cost. Big hugs and deep breaths xx

Wow, yeah, really sorry about the hassle you've been getting CW. I know when we had our extension, the builders were brilliant espeailly when we "knocked through" as they had put special sticky covers down on all the carpets etc. which worked really well at keeping everything dust free. Don't get me wrong, there was still dust everywhere but it was much easier to sort out afterwards.
We've spent a few hours up the loft this morning having a good tidy out as boiler man is coming to do a service next week and he wouldn't have been able to find it ;)
Filled the car an had a trip to the tip for a few items then Barnado's for loads of stuff for them to sell.
Ha ha Kerri, me and Fd went on bike today and got a loads of apples and beetroot - no pictures lol!
Off for a ke ride in the morning, enjoy the weekend both of you :D

My dh and ds made a few trips to the tip yesterday too.:rotfl:They said it was really busy and people were queuing to get in.

Hope your boiler service is ok. If you haven;t tried your heating yet this autumn give it a go Jeferey before the service guy comes. A friend of mine had hers serviced the other week and when the man came he turned it on and it didn;t work at all. She phoned the insurers straight away and they said it should be covered by the service. The service man said not as he hadn;t even started to service it so she ended up paying £400 for the repair and is in argument now with the insurers as to who should pay.

Unfortunately the frame needs to be above 6 inches taller as the frame needs to be the same size as the new doors. The entire front of the wardrobes has to be changed even the filler panel at the top. Also we now need a new top shelf.

The carpet was fitted on saturday. The room has been empty for around 3 months now as it was replastered incl new ceiling, then decorated, some floorboards replaced/repaired and finally the wardrobes. We have had to put my new bed etc in as couldn;t face cancelling the carpet and waiting another few weeks. I have been sleeping in my sons bed, even in a chair in the lounge or had my bed in the bedroom with no carpet or curtains and just couldn;t wait any longer.

The company advertise they will leave everything spick and span, to me than means clean though realistically there could be a little dust but the fitter didn;t even have a vacuum cleaner, just a brush and shovel so the sawdust was walked in my sons bedroom, across the landing to the loo, in the loo, right down the stairs and across the dining room to the front door. The bedroom had a thick layer of sawdust so when he brushed the floor while I am sure he got some of it up by brushing he spread even more dust in the air.

The company insist on having an empty room when they fit wardrobes well if they want it emptying again they can shift everything. I won;t be doing it. I will cover the bed in spare sheets and move the dressing table to the other side of the room. I am also going to insist he cuts anything outside so hope it isn;t raining when he comes.

We need to repaint the windowsill as well as he scratched all that which we are not happy about as we had a proper decorator do the room. Everything in my room is still in boxes piled up in the dining room, which meant everything out of the dining room had to go in the lounge so it made a mess of the whole house, so its felt like camping in my own home for months.

If they make a mess of anything I will be billing them. I was really looking forward to getting my bedroom back as well.

Hope you get back to some semblance of order soon CW, bit of a nightmare this house doing-up/maintenance lark!

The plumber told us the problem with the shower was the grouting was kn@ckered - didn't charge us (result!) so I've bought a grouting removal tool today and DW says she'll have a go tomorrow at getting rid of all the old stuff! Then I'll have to get it all re-grouted - I might pay neighbour to do it, he helped me fit and tile the kitchen.

Boiler service is Wednesday - £50 he said, seems ok.

Ditto what Jeferey says CW Its so frustrating when plans don't go as you, errr, planned and esp annoying when people damage something like the windowsill and seem careless. Hope there isn't too much upheaval with the replacement wardrobe and it's everything you hoped it to be when its finally finished.

Re-grouting you say jeferey? I'm an 'expert' at that now - need any tips? :D If you were closer I'd have lent you my grouting tools - and I have some grout left over from my tiling escapade.

Another glorious autumn day here, have noticed the change in weather in that I can leave a wash out to dry all day and its still not dry when I bring it in that evening. Still can't complain, the trees look beautiful atm. Went to yoga at lunchtime, pushed myself to go - came out feeling much better for it.

    Good morning kerri and Jeferey

Hope your dw manages to remove the grout in your bathroom Jeferey, sounds like a very labour intensive job. Would defo ask the neighbour for help though to get it done quickly.

I know what you mean about washing kerri. What ever you put on the line gets so cold that it can;t dry. Even though its sunny its just too cold to dry the washing.

Oh regrouting is just a joy as I found out. I'm assuming if she gets most of the crud / damaged grout off, it will be ok to regrout over any left, just make sure it's well compacted (sure I don't need to tell you that jeferey). I found a piping bag (just a food one) was really useful and making sure the grout was all the way into the groove.

Towels out 'drying' today but don't hold out much hope as to how dry they'll be. I, like you CW had the heating on for a little bit this morning to take the nip off. That said we generally put it on about Oct time I think ...or is it Nov I make OH hold out for? (he's currently bundled in a think fleece). Our floor is badly insulated so you actually get very cold feet just sat on the sofa.

I hope the wardrobe saga is sorted soon for you - its hard enoguh when you do DIY yourself and get something wrong but when someone you're paying c*cks it up its just :mad::mad::mad:

Gorgeous day here again, if cold - I love the change in seasons and some of the trees are just beautiful now.

Kerri, what a good idea about using an icing bag to make sure you fill the groooves between tiles properly. Would look a bit odd doing it but if it works, who cares.

Its cold again so the heating is on for a while so everyone can have a shower and not freeze. Looks like this is what we will need to do every day now and it never seems to warm up much during the day. It is getting harder to dry washing, even last week I could put washing on the line and it dried but not the last few days.

    Take care guys
