Evening cw & jeferey so sorry I have been absent this week, I was busy last weekend training and this week has just been so busy at work. I have been totally shattered, by Thurs night I slept like a log, slept all the way through the night which is unlike me. I must admit I have also been somewhat engrossed in a series on my kindle.
Anyway, I am finally getting fruit off my toms....esp as I realised the ones I was waiting to turn red were actually a yellow variety :rotfl:
Spent 5 1/2 hrs yesterday clearing a verge opposite our houses - the council don't seem to want to take any responsibility to do it and with leaves, generally debris etc it was a state. So after three trips to the tip I've cleared the brambles, cut back some brushes, and cleared up 1 1/2 feet back to the edging stones (which I never even knew were there) it's not exactly Kew Gardens but does now mean visitor cars can park a bit further back, and it looks a bit neater. Might try and clear some more gradually but omg my back is feeling it today.
Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend. Forecast is rain tomorrow or Monday which doesn't bode well for a car boot I was supposed to be doing.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Good morning guys
We are still busy digging up roots ec from all the trees and shrubs we have dug up/cut back. We spent all day yesterday digging up 1 root but the biggest root we are going to tackle today. My ds and dh have worked so hard (under my supervision of course.. lol).
Its taking longer than we thought. My ds won;t take any more rubbish to the tip as the car ended up full of spiders and various crawlies. He spent a few hours vacuuming the car the other day and still every day there are spiders webs here and there so all the rubbish has been dumped on the patio to go in the green wheelie bin every two weeks.
Still lots of cutting back of shrubs to do as well, they have grown so much they are too big for where they are so its cut back time or they have to go.
A few houses down have completely flagged there front garden and it looks really nice the way its been done, very smart and tidy.
kerri - its great that you cut back the shrubbery on the council bit of land, they probably have forgot its there so if you didn;t do it, everything will keep on growing and getting more and more untidy. The problem is once you have done it you now have to keep it like that. lol.
Hope you enjoy your trip to Buxton Jeferey and the weather stays fine for you. Are you taking your FD.

cw I too have spiders in the car now, don't mind them too much and will have to give it a Hoover shortly as its a state (thoguh usually has a small field in it anyway due to my boot camp / running)
I had emailed the council last year saying about the state of the verge, and that it meant cars had to park further out causing a pedestrian obstruction and it may invite antisocial behaviour such as little dropping as it looked untidy already....didn't even get a reply from them, the council do the alley which leads right up to the verge once in a blue moon but stop at the end of it. Apparently when the estate was first built, people had to pay maintenance but the guys who came to do the verge used to just sit in the van smoking and having a tea break. One of our neighbours filmed them and complained to the maintenance company saying they weren't going to pay any more until that was addressed ..... So the company simply stopped coming! I'm hoping now I've done the hard part, some of the neighbours might chip in to help with the upkeep, there's still some more like digging out bramble roots to do but the back of it is broken (as well as mine lol)
Sounds like you've been working DS and DH hardwe need to cut some shrubs like yours really well back, will be more trips to the tip but I'm leaving that job until the autumn as some are still attracting bees (incl our massive Hebe)

Morning kerri and Jeferey
I think its great if neighbours can pull together to help keep things tidy even if its not there own property. It makes the area a nicer place to live. So i hope the neighbours all start helping keep it nice rather than all the work falling on you.
We have a community group around here and they started doing regular street tidying a few months ago. They all go out with a bin bag and litter pickers and get rubbish out of all the hedges etc. The council do clean our pavements every 6 months around here, they drive a machine like a large sit on vacuum cleaner around the streets which sucks up any rubbish on the pavements.
My ds and dh spent all day digging out roots yesterday and they were worn out. Can;t carry on today as its raining (and aren;t they glad. lol. )

I bet your DS and DH are glad of the day off CW it's raining here too and I'm so glad we made a call yesterday on not doing the car boot this morning.
My DM popped round yesterday and I showed her the work we had done at the front, she remarked 'you did all that?' Then 'isn't that the councils job' which actually annoyed me a bit, no, 'that looks better or you've done a good job' I know she was only trying to say that we might have been able to save ourself the work (despite the fact is already contacted the council with no joy) but a positive comment wouldn't have gone amiss. I have some wild flower seeds so I might try and clear some more dead stuff and have the area ready for those next year, they were free so it won't cost me anything except a bit of time.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Morning kerri and Jeferey
I agree kerri, if you make the area look nicer it will give you (and the neighbours) pleasure rather than looking an untidy. messy area. So as long as your willing to tackle it, good on you. If you wait for the council it might never be done.
No gardening yesterday, it rained all day and its due to rain again today. Both my dh and ds had lots of aches and pains so a few days off gardening is best anyway.

Afternoon Kerri and CW
What a great thing to do Kerri
We had a great time in Buxton, weather held up and we walked for miles. Poole's cavern as amazing!
Absolutely bouncing it down at the moment but I managed to cut the grass before it started. Also dropped DW's car off for service & MOT this morning and bike home 10 miles, then bike back again after an hour and a half to pick it back up!
Went to allotment yesterday and got some lovely spuds, onions, courgettes, rainbow chard & carrots as our parents were coming over for lunch.
Back to work tomorrow but it'll be a nice short weekIf at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat0 -
Morning kerri and Jeferey (just)
Just got back from hospital, had to go for an x ray of my knee which has been playing up for near 2 months now. Can;t keep taking painkillers so need to get to the bottom of it. My knee is really swollen as well and I am limping around all the time.
My ds and dh haven;t been able to do much in the garden the last few days as its been raining. Think its going to rain again in a while. Yesterday the met office said we had 10% chance of rain so my ds got all the tools out and they just started when the heavens opened, they got soaked putting everything away and the neighbours two cats hid in our garage to shelter from the rain, they just hate getting wet. So of course when my ds came in the house the cats did too. lol.
Oh well, time for a cuppa I think.

Afternoon CW (hope you get good news on your knee) and Kerri
Forecasters have been rubbish recently! I managed to get in an 11 mile bike ride last night in between showers. Flippin' cold for early September, can we have the heat turned back up please? If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat0 -
Good morning kerri and Jeferey.
It has been cold Jeferey, I have even mentioned we will be putting the heating on soon at this rate. A few neighbours have had it on already around here. It should still be warm not this cold autumnal weather we have been having.
Bought some more plants yesterday for the front garden. We are putting a weed blanket thing down and putting wood chips on it so need some new plants to fill it and have bought some log roll to put to separate out garden from next doors as well. Suppose if it stays dry thats what my dh and ds will be doing today.
