  • I have recently received a letter from "crapquest" as they are known on here and they are claiming that I owe them money. They had been phoning my parents house for weeks and as I had literally just moved into a new flat and again I received a letter!? For a start I would like to know how the hell they found out where I stay as I hadn't even registered my new address with my bank or anything!
Now this "debt" I owe them is apparently for my old mobile phone. I admit I got a new phone before my contract was up, however as the contract wasn't up until 3 months later, I continued to pay both bills for my old and new phone. A month before the contract was due to end, i phoned vodafone and cancelled the contract. As far as I am concerned I paid right up until my contract ended and gave vodafone the months notice that I was required to do.

So I phoned capquest and was greeted by an loud brash american asking when i will be paying, I told him that I would not be paying as the debt doesn't exist, he laughed and said again when will you be paying. before I went into anything with him I asked him how his company got my details and how they got my new address as i had literally just moved in. He started to sound less confident and mumbled something about an in house investigation team (investigation team!! Are they stalking me? the majority of my friends didn't even know my new address at this point!) So I told him that I had cancelled my contract with vodafone a month before it was due to end and had paid the final month as well. he then said that I had to write a letter to them to say that I would like the debt to go into disrepute. before I even had a chance to send them a letter I got another one dated the 10th feb saying "further to our letter dated the 9th feb" Now I don't know what kind of postal system they think is in the UK but I wouldn't even have received the letter by then never mind had a chance to reply to it in any way shape or form and the letter basically said that as I was "refusing to co-operate" I would be put down as a "won't pay" now for a start I had co-operated with them and contacted them and secondly of course i'm not going to pay as it doesn't exist!! then they make it sound like they are doing you a favour and "for a limited time only" I could pay a reduced amount. Total Jokers and I will be reporting them and complaining.

I will be sending off the letter above today.

To enable us to get both the cancellation aspect of your case looked into together with the contact you've received from the DCA could you email the relevant account details across to me via the contact information in our profile page here?

When sending it you'll need to quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line.

I received a letter from Capquest for a outstanding debt of £266.66 for Hbos Plc (I think they're part of Lloyds Banking Group)

Now like previous posters I have no idea what this debt is, I've just got a mortgage with my wife. My credit card is paid on time every month, and the same applies to all utitlity bills etc.

I've written a letter to them asking for all details on the aledged debt.

Thing is I think it's a scam, When we applied for the convayancy searches for our house someone with the same name was declared bankrupt in Manchester & owed money..is there anyway they could have got my details in this way?

Also what I don't understand is how they got my address, I've only been in my new house for 8 weeks & only the bank & utitlity companies know it!
  • Normally I would put letter like that in the bin. Only reason I replied was my wife is worried people are going to start turning up at the door demading money.

I'll see what they have to say in reply, then all further letter will go straight into the bin. I know honesty the debt isn't mine.
  • We have been having 2 calls a day for over a fortnight from them which go straight to answer machine and are thinking of getting their number barred. either a blank message or the one demanding that we phone their premium rate number.

Definitely don't have any debts either now or in the past and am starting to get fed up with the calls as their automated message makes our answer machine go funny.

I have had phone calls from these numpties asking me if my husband used to live at 2 certain addresses. I said no but would not tell them our address!
Then we got 2 letters from them at our address with the wrong initial to his name! They kept phoning telling me to get him to phone them I said NO you phone back if you want to talk to him.. When they did he told them he was not the person they were after so they asked him his date of birth! and its was not the one they had!!!
  • 5 calls now today, 4 with no message and 1 telling us to phone their premium number.

    No persons name ever mentioned.

I've just had a knock on my front door. This guy tried giving me a letter from crapquest. Told these money grabbing wasters last year that I acknowledge no debt to them. Refused said letter told this guy that I would not accept it as I have no debt with them. They say that I owe egg banking £2500, which I do not. They actually owe me money as they took £3600 out of my bank account incurred me lots of charges (which incidentally I had to pay), When I tried to pay off my £1800 credit card. That was in 2001 and now last year they start sending letters to me. I am getting really p***ed off with these jokers. They are scumbags. Told guy at door to tell them if they harrass me again I'm going to take legal action against them.
Even if I did owe them money, it's been more than 6 years but these muppet scumbags wont quit.

Hi, For what it's worth, I didn't think these debt companies had a legal right to knock your door, only bailiffs have that power. I could be wrong but maybe worth mentioning. Good luck with them!
  • I've just got a letter back from them asking for all details on the debt & the reply I got was....

'Thank you for your correspondance and our response it as follows'

Please note that as we are acting on behalf of our client therefore, a notice of assignment for the above account is not applicable'

Does anyone know what this means? I still haven't a clue what this debt is actually about!!!

What did you write asking for in your letter?

You really need to just write disputing the debt.
