Hello,
I've read most of the stuff about capquest and I'd like to also ask for help with dealing with them.
I've got debt to capital 1 which has been passed to capquest to enforce. I do not agree with all the charges that have been put onto my accout therefor I have sent a CCA request and £1 postal order recorded to Capquest. The letter and the postal order has been returned saying:
' Thank you for your correspondence.
We would advise you that we have returned your letter and fee as our client requires that any written requests are signed by the account holder beforethey will process the request.
Please can you sign and return your letter and fee so we can forward your request onto our client. '
It's been advised to me not to sign any correspondence just print my name and surname which I've done to prevent copying my signature.
Could you tell me what should I do now?
Moved to a separate thread.

I have just been reading your posts on here about cap quest. I received a letter from them demanding 383.40 saying it was from littlewoods. I was sure I had paid this debt last year but was so scared by the lady on the phone I borrowed the money to pay them.
I feel such a fool for not asking for more info, but I couldn't find any paperwork relating to littlewoods to say this debt had been paid0 -
sorry have sorted thanks newayThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50

I got back from work to find a recorded message from these guys on my answerphone - basically stating that they are CapQuest and asking me to return the call. No other information was given, and the number to call was 0870 084 3535 (a premium rate number) although that's not the number that the call came from.
I have the usual finances - a couple of credit cards and a mortgage - but I am not aware of defaulting on any payments, my credit cards are still active, my gas, water and electricity have not been cut off, I pay the mortgage before I even buy food, and I have had no demands in the last two weeks at all.
I am really concerned that there is something behind this. My first reaction is that this is a scam call, but the group appear to actually exist. On top of that, I am due to go on holiday for an extended period shortly.
I assume that these guys will call again shortly, and not give up. If I answer the phone, I risk encouraging them, but I may find out what this is all about. If I don't answer, I risk that somehow this is a valid issue and I will be away when letters are sent.
Do these guys cold call people who don't owe on debts, or does a call mean that at least they think that they are working within the system?
If/When they call again, should I pick up and state that I will only correspond via letter, or would it be best to just ignore it and wait for a letter if they actually have anything approaching a case?
The whole situation is starting to eat at me, which is not good.
Thanks in advance.0 -

Ignore it. If they can't put it in writing, then it's not important enough to deal with over the phone.0 -
Hello,
Thank you for your site it helps to know I'm not alone. Some years ago I fell foul of a Bank of Scotland scam to encourage additional borrowing on a small loan I had. I was paying off my loan quite well until I lost my work and fell into greater debt trying to pay my way whilst I found new work. Finally after much discussion and struggling to make my payments with BOS they sold my debt to CapQuest who have been making my life hell ever since. I have paid off the original amount owed which CapQuest bought (due to my ignorance and my wife's insistence) satisfying the amount owed and paying up to the amount of monthly payments I was committed to. Now they are trying to get another £1200 from me over the amount I originally owed. I have told them I am not paying it and have now received a letter off them saying they are going to send it to their solicitors for a claim to be issued by the County Court to put a second charge on my property. They won't reveal where this extra £1200 is from or what it is for, nor send me a copy of my payments. They have said they are not obliged to send any statements of my payments. Is this right and can I stop them from taking out a second charge on my house?0 -

It has now been over 48 hours since the first message was left on my answerphone and I have had no letter of demand from them, and no follow up phone call. I assume that this is just a phishing call to get people to call up their premium rate number while they keep you on the phone and sort out any 'mistake'.
I am losing faith in humanity!0 -

It is a phishing call - don't fall for it.
They don't care if it's the actual debtor who pays - just if someone pays.
I expect they'll probably try again via phone in 5-7 days after the first call.
But, if there's no letter, then there's absolutely no reason for you to do anything with this.0
