A £60 fine for no MOT.

How much does the MOT cost, £54...not much of a deterrent is it?

Given that you will get one ever ANPR police camera car you pass, I would say yes it will soon become a deterrent.
    Be happy...;)

When I went to renew my tax (expired December) on the 12th of Jan it failed the online MOT check.

When I found the certificate I discovered it ran out last August so I’ve been driving MOT less for almost six months. During that time I must have covered the thick end of 10,000 miles including multiple trips into central London, up and down the M1 & M4 and over the Channel twice without hearing a peep from any of the ANPR units I must have passed.

Maybe no MOT by itself is too small a crime to bother with, maybe the MOT database isn’t linked to ANPR or maybe I was just lucky

and, to make matters worse, I managed the same this year....MOT ran out in Feb, I noticed & renewed at the end of June

Welp, you are obviously a child murderer with a rusty falling apart deathtrap that probably looks like something from Carmageddon, even though I don't know you and have never seen your car. Please hand in your licence as soon as possible and buy a bus pass.

Seriously though, do try to be more careful, but thanks for the info.

I've done this too, but only for 2 weeks (I was insured, but not taxed/MoT'd)

Luckily this was in the days before ANPR!

and worse still (if such a thing was possible) my licence is the old bilingual green paper one I got when I passed my test in the '70s and still has my parents address on it even though I've not lived there for 35 years

All you need to do now is have a minor accident, settle privately and not tell your insurance company and then we have enough evidence to set up the MSE Motors lynch mob to march on your house with torches and pitchforks (3 for 2 in the latest B&Q sale)

on the insurance front if a car has no valid mot ins doc that would void any insurance claim as it is not legally on the road. same goes for no valid car tax all are legal requirements as is car insurance - yes I know there are those with out
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

Sorry but this is complete rubbish, and it comes up time and time again on this forum.

An insurance company cannot void a policy for no tax or no MOT. There are plenty of cases where insurers have tried and been stomped on by the ombudsman.

For an insurer to void a policy in this way they must prove that the vehicle was unroadworthy in a manner that contributed to the accident. For example if you had 4 bald tyres and slid into the back of someone on a wet road then they could come after you for the money they had to pay out to the person you hit.

The only thing that no MOT/tax affects on an insurance policy is the amount they will pay out if your car is written off, since a car with no tax or MOT is worth less than one that has these items.
