Daughter stopped for no mot
Options
She was stopped yesterday and told that her mot ran out in Jan. It is her first car and she has had the car less than a year and is sure that she has taken it for a mot in that time.
She reckons that she took it on the same day as her mother did her car. When mum tried to tax her car on line, the site said that she had no mot either.
Daughter can`t find the mot and mum in America. She will phone the garage today to see if they can find anything. New stepdad has filed all the car mots, log books etc somewhere so DD can`t check her details online.
If DD is wrong and has not done the mot, is the £60 fine the only penalty? Would the insurance co need to know next year?
Thanks

If she's been issued with the fine already that should be the end of it - I suspect any future offenses will see her in court where the fine is much more severe. It's my understanding though no MOT doesn't mean points.
She can drive the car to a pre-booked appointment to have the MOT done. Tell her to get her !!!! in check and have it done. And make sure SHE manages the paperwork in future so she knows exactly what has and hasn't been done. Ignorance isn't an excuse.0 -
Thanks. She is convinced that she did take it for a mot. Only done it once in her life so remembers it. Surely it didn`t fail and DD to dumb to realise? She will contact her garage this morning. And, yes, she should look after her own documents. Think new dad a bit of a control freak. I will get her to put a reminder in her phone diary for the next mot. Whenever it is.0

I keep a photocopy of all my car docs in the car and the originals filed safe at home, thinking about this I should scan them and keep a copy on my phone as well. I hope your daughter gets it all sorted with out too much hassle.0

Did your daughter pay for the MOT with a card? Just thinking she could check online bank records to see when payment was to help garage find details.0

She can go along to any MOT centre with her V5C (some, seeing you in the car, wont even bother with that) and they can check on the computer if the car is MOT'd or not and print her off a new one for a small fee. Unless however the police have screwed up, they would have checked the same system.
Is the problem at the issuing garage, is it still in business?0 -
They wouldn't just pull for no MOT unless it was massively out OR there was a visible problem with the car.
The Police have less tolerance than me when it comes to the "oh never mind, the wheels are falling off, but it'll be fine if I just turn the radio up and wait for the MOT in 9 months time", which is (sorry) primarily a female thing, but really only because so many garages try to rip them off.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Shouldn't matter as they all use the same system.0 -

Quick update as I have to leave this hotel by 10. Her tax renewal form came today and the gov site says no mot. Her mother has used the same garage for 15 years so that is why DD went. She can`t find mot still, but has a receipt for the service she claims was done on the same day. I will go to the garage with her tomorrow to check. It is strange that mums car was mot`d on the same day, yet did not show as having one when she taxed her car.
Thanks for the replies.0
