  • for dave brooker the seller, you'll never get anywher near the volume of sales you'll get by offering paypal.

That's rather a sweeping statement and unfounded (unless you have figures to back up your claim of course?). I sell a considerable amount of stuff on Ebay and have a niche market for all my items and don't offer Paypal on any of them. I did used to offer Paypal until earlier in the year but since I stopped offering it I haven't noticed any down turn in sales whatsoever. In fact, if anything it's gone the other way as it's got to a point now where as fast as I'm listing stuff it's getting bought within a couple of hours.

  • apologies to SC and Hintza, i made a broad statement when i should have made clear that i was referring to buying and selling mobile phones.

if you have the means to supply a niche market then you'll do well regardless of whether you offer paypal or not

but for things such as mobile phones, which was the intended starting topic of this thread, sellers offering paypal would always be better off. I dont think i need any proof to back up my statement on that, its just common sense.
  • I sell really quite specialist and expensive items so people will bid regardless.

would you care to let us know exactly what these expensive items are that people would purchase from you regardless of whether you offered paypal or not?
I can see your point for people who sell everyday run of the mill tat, though.

mobile phones are run-of-the-mill tat?

    Parts for expensive cars.

You'd have to be a fool to sell mobiles and accept paypal given the number of fraudulent transactions involving the two together.
    The money, Dave...

For the gazillionth time, If you follow all the set guidelines you can never go wrong, people lose their money/goods only when they do not follow the guidelines.

I do not post to unconfirmed/unverified paypal users, no if's, no but's, goods are always sent to confirmed and verified addresses where paypal will cover me through the seller protection policy, and always use recorded/special delivery.

only once did I have a problem, and that too was becuase of royal mail more than anything, even then the buyer was understanding paid into my HSBC when paypal refused to play ball with him.
